JoelS
Hey there. I'm in my first Whole30, and I've learned so much! Looking to extend this and make permanent lifestyle changes. Shopping this morning, I noticed Kroger brand lemon liome seltzer. Zero calories and incredients are carbonated water and natural flavors. I compered these to La Criox, and they have the same ingredients. With La Croix being twice as expensive, I am wondering if the Kroger brand is acceptable? Thanks in advance. slc_melissa
Quote Future tools answer: Check out http://whole30.com/downloads/additives.pdf for some answers to common additives. You can google "Natural flavors site:forum.whole30.com" to have google search only the forum to see if someone has asked already about natural flavors. Short answer: never look at the calories or american nutrition label as a determination of whole 30 compliance, look only at the ingredients. Water (carbonated) is fine, natural flavors are fine. Always double check labels even if it's a brand you've purchased before.
Derek`
Yes, this is acceptable. Just a couple of caveats: 1) I would not recommend using these types of drinks to fill a void left by pop and other sweetened, carbonated beverages that are not allowed on Whole30. If you were formerly a 12-pack-of-pop-per-day person (no judgments; I was one of those people), then it's best to stick to plain water, coffee, and tea during Whole30. 2) Read the labels carefully. Sounds like you've already done this. Kroger carries store brands of two types of zero-calorie sparkling beverages. One is just the carbonated water with natural flavors like you mentioned; the other contains sweeteners that are definitely off-limits for Whole30. Just be careful, as the location and packaging are similar. Best wishes in your journey towards healthfulness.
