Few BM, Lots of gas :(

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone,

Since starting the Whole 30 eating, I've suddenly become SUPER stinky gassy and grumbly but have very few BM. When I do, it's normal looking but not a lot. I look bloated, and being 7 weeks postpartum it's not encouraging... I feel like I'm getting more of a stomach instead of it shrinking despite regular exercise and drinking a gallon+ water a day. I did some digging and I'm thinking the culprit is avocado (building a bridge over the river I cried so I can get over it). What else can I do to get my fats? I cook with coconut oil and sometimes EVOO but don't like soggy food so I don't want to use more. I love macademias, and coconut but do you all have any yummy ways to incorporate that into most meals? Is there a good fat source I'm not thinking of? I could eat more salmon, but I am breastfeeding and feel like I need to be careful of mercury intake. Thanks so much!!

Hey Fitlife4me.... I can totally relate to this. But was wondering, is there any other food that you have eaten far more of since starting whole30? For me, I started having lots more onions and then realized that all along, they were the culprit of my fermented smelling gas that I was trying to get rid of by starting the Whole30. Very frustrating. Perhaps it's not just avocado, but is something else that you eat as well (onions??)

Good suggestion! However, my baby has sensitivities to foods that make HER gassy too so I haven't been eating broccoli, bell peppers, garlic, tomatoes, or onions. It may also be kale.. Usually I just do spinach but I decided to try a mix this time. So far I'm feeling less gassy from not having avocado with my last meal, but I didn't have the kale mix either so we'll see! Other than that I haven't changed anything else. I pretty much eat the same stuff everyday and keep it simple. 3-4 eggs scrambled with zucchini, mushrooms, and spinach (the change has been the kale/chard/something that starts with M in the greens mix and adding avocado), turkey or salmon patty or chicken with same veggies and sweet potato, and then either the same again for dinner or some other sort of meat like pork or beef. Again, only changes with those have been adding avocado and the greens mix. For fruit I typically have a banana and an apple, or berries if we have them. Oh and persimmons lately but they haven't given me problems before.

Other fat sources: ghee (put it on roasted veggies!), mayonnaise (you can also put various spices in it to make an assortment of sauces and dips!), rendered animal fats, olives, etc.

you can do this mama

Thank you! I need to get me some of that primal mayo for sure, and I'll make some ghee. :)
