Whole day at outdoor fundraiser. Need easy food ideas.

The Golden Retriever Rescue I volunteer for is having their annual fundraiser this coming Saturday. It is at an outdoor location, with a snack bar and no compliant food. I am manning one of the booths with merchandise for sale, and probably won't have time for a real meal. I'm in SW FL, and temps are still in the 90s. I will have a small cooler with water for me and my dogs. What can I bring for lunch that's easy to eat, not messy, and won't spoil or wilt if I have to put it down and can't get back to it for a while? Most of the volunteers are bringing chips, pretzels, and granola bars and planning to just snack all day.

Can you not take an extra cooler with a lot of ice loaded with egg and tuna salad made with your new mayo?? Or hard boiled eggs, deviled eggs. Turkey or beef wraps with avocado. I can think of a million things if you can keep them cool. Sardines? Tuna packed in olive oil (fat and protein) and possibly some bags of cukes and peppers with some black olives?

I'm not worried about the storage time in the cooler, it's more what happens when I take it out to eat it, then get busy and wind up setting on the table in the heat. I can't make customers wait while I keep putting my lunch back in the container and putting the container back in the cooler three dozen times. And I have yet to make a wrap that isn't so messy that I couldn't possibly handle merchandise while attempting to eat. That's why everyone seems to be bringing things that are dry and don't go bad in 95 degree heat. Let's face it sandwiches and carb-based snacks are much easier in this situation.

ETA Raw veggies are not a problem, and I'm planning on bringing a bunch. it's the protein that will keep me feeling full that I worry about. i don't want to be tempted by everyone else's junk because I'm starving.

I would take some easy proteins and forget the wraps then. Peeled hard boiled eggs. Slices of turkey and/or Roast Beef. Lara bars? They are for emergency. Some nuts and dried fruit. I hate eating like that, but this is obviously a situation that you just need to do what you need to do.

I did buy a box of Lara bars at Costco, but I haven't tried them yet. I'm just terribly squeamish about eating things left out in the heat for more than a few minutes. Sliced meats may have to do for the protein. I agree, I don't like eating this way either. A ready supply of dried fruits and nuts is too easy to go overboard on, and too much like my old habit of mindless snacking.

Exactly, but you can't let yourself be starving and possibly start snarking at people attending the event. :) It's just one day and I think you should over supply yourself with easy things that you can gobble down. There must be a few minutes you could step aside and let others handle things until you can re-fuel? Sounds like there will be others there.

Beef jerky is a great grab and go protein. I never found any compliant when on W30 so I made my own. Hard boiled eggs. Grilled chicken strips. You could just grab a piece when you have time. I spent 12 hours at our church bazaar Sunday. I had a huge breakfast, packed a salad of lettuce, cucumber, avocado, and homemade dressing. I took 5 minutes to sit and eat. I also threw hard boiled egg and sweet potato in my cooler. There were fajitas so I bought one and threw the meat on my salad. Having a plan is huge. Drink plenty of water so you're not tempted to mindlessly snack on non compliant foods.

What about small eggs-there was a store near where I used to live that sold small, medium, large and extra large/jumbo. I used to get the small and hard boil them for single bite eggs. Maybe something like that?

I want small eggs now. I always buy large because that is what I thought we should. Can't wait..2 large and 2 small. :)

Well, i'm back from my fundraiser and I did fine. I found some compliant chipotle chicken sausages that I had cold, and I brought sliced green peppers (which I hate when I'm not on Whole30, but somehow I crave when I am, go figure) and carrot sticks, and some walnuts and cashews. I also had a couple of hard-boiled eggs and a small cucumber and tomato salad, but I never touched them. I was full on the sausage and veg.

I was right to be concerned, however. I was alone most of the day, and very busy. (My 'partner' wound up wandering around and socializing. grrr) For a little booth where the most expensive item was $12, I sold just under $700 worth of stuff in 5 hours.
