Hi there, my name is Thiago, I am 22 years old.

About 2 1/2 months ago I realized I had gained a lot of weight, I was at 263lb and I'm 6ft tall, which is over 65 pounds of what my weight should be. I started having abdominal pains and chest pains, and thought maybe I was being affected by my bad diet. So I started eating a lot better and exercising. 2 months later, I am 29 pounds down, but still have abdominal and chest pains. I went in to the ER 3 times and had appointments and multiple tests done on me and everything came back normal (thank God I'm healthy). My Dr then suggested I do the Whole 30 program as he thinks that my pains might be caused by inflamation and GERD. He said that even being healthier there are multiple things that I'm eating that are considered "healthy" but can cause complications.

I am actually really excited to do this as I am really starting to enjoy living a healthier lifestyle. The problem is, I HAVE NO IDEA HOW TO START

I've read everything on the website multiple times and I'm still lost.

I have the list of what I can buy/eat but no idea what to do with it.

My question is, what can I eat as a quick snack?

How many meals am I suppose to eat a day?

How do I know if something really falls under the Whole 30 requirements?

Are there any foods I can eat at a restaurant if I go out with friends or girlfriend? Any specific restaurant that's got healthier stuff?

Any other important stuff I might wanna know?

I am completely determined to do this and I know that I can do it without a major struggle.

Sorry for writing an essay but I'm just lost.

Thanks in advance,

Thiago :)

Hi, Thiago! I'm guessing some moderator will be here soon to advise you! i just wanted to let you know that you made a great decision!

have you thought about buying the book? they have all the info there (the purpose of the plan, what you can and cannot eat, meal templates, recipes!!!) and maybe you'll be more confident in starting - you should only do this after you've got some stuff planned! or else it can be too overwhelming. so maybe not tomorrow but friday?

anyway nor trying to bring you down, you should totally do this! but it's always nice to have all that info on hand before. i guess, hahaha, the moderator will be more assertive here.

best of luck, it's awesome! (and im only on day 10)

Hi @Thiago22 - don't be overwhelmed. You're basically going to feed yourself three meals a day that are composed of protein, veggies and fat. See? Wasn't that easy? ;)

You're going to stay away from all dairy, grains, legumes, alcohol and sugar and anything that uses whole food ingredients to make old comforty foods like pancakes, tortillas, muffins or breads.

If you're feeling overwhelmed, you have a couple choices. First, you can simply jump in and do it. If that's scary, you could pick a day a bit further out and do some pre-planning, pantry cleaning, re-reading.

As far as your questions:

I have the list of what I can buy/eat but no idea what to do with it. - do you know how to cook? If not, the Well Fed series by Mel Joulwan is excellent and almost all her recipes are Whole30 compliant.

My question is, what can I eat as a quick snack? - we don't want you snacking. As per the meal template (linked below), we want you to eat 3 meals each day that keep you going for approximately 4-5 hours before needing to eat again. This negates the need for snacks. You would also add pre and post workout food if that fits your context.

How do I know if something really falls under the Whole 30 requirements? - You read all your ingredients lists. As long as there are no non-compliant ingredients and the item isn't trying to replicate something that would be normally non compliant (eg, crackers), you're fine. Think protein, veggies and fats.

Are there any foods I can eat at a restaurant  - there are all sorts of foods to eat at a restaurant. Protein, veggies and fat. ;) You can google "Whole30 dining out guide" for a printout on questions to ask when visiting a restaurant.
