jeffpkoon
My main question is concerned with meal times. I go to Dialysis 3 days a week, from 4:30PM to 9:00PM. Right now I eat on the way home from Dialysis, and stay up about an hour to go to bed around 10:30. I read that I should not eat within 2-3 hours of bed. What are the ramifications of breaking this rule? Eating during Dialysis is problematic. Thanks! Jeff K.
Moderators SugarcubeOD Posted November 11, 2016 Moderators Share Posted November 11, 2016 The recommendation to not eat 2-3 hours before bed is for sleep quality. It sounds like you're used to this schedule and it's necessary for your wellbeing, so it's not going to negate your whole30. You might not get the improved sleep as much as someone who does take that recommendation but its a recommendation, not a rule, so you're still doing a whole30. Linked in my signature below are the rules vs the recommendations. Maybe have another read through so you're totally sure what is a 'rule' and what is a recommendation. To do a Whole30, you have to follow all the rules for 30 days. The recommendations are there to help improve your experience but you can ditch them all and still be doing a Whole30. LydiaJo
Jeff, good for you. This is a place of support as well as a place of accountability.
jeffpkoon
@SugarCubeOD, Thanks for that. I am already breaking one rule (No weighing, as I have to weigh in and out every dialysis session), and just wanted to make sure I wasn't dooming my leptin/insulin/cortisol web to imminent demise. :-)
LydiaJo
Jeff, do you weigh yourself or could they just write it on your chart without telling you the number? Just a thought.
Moderators SugarcubeOD Posted November 11, 2016 Moderators Share Posted November 11, 2016 @jeffpkoon Hey there! I agree with @LydiaJo, it would be great if during this time, you could get someone else to document your weight and chart it... a friend, fellow patient, clinician? I know weight is a huge deal during dialysis but maybe you could let your healthcare team know that you only want to know if it's become a problem that you need to manage. There are a lot of things that can affect weight and dialysis increases the number of contributors so I know it's important but it also means that you have MORE reasons why it would be really great not to see the number for 30 days... Of course tho, you have to do what is best for your health... just encouraging you to advocate for yourself a bit if possible so that you can really see all the non scale victories awaiting you!
