Moderators ShannonM816 Posted November 16, 2016 Moderators Share Posted November 16, 2016 In general, tea seems to be okay to have occasionally, although caffeine can be a problem for some people with IBS, so if you feel you're not getting better, you might leave out all caffeinated teas for a while -- any black, green, or white teas are going to have some caffeine unless they specifically state they are decaffeinated. (All three of these are made from the same plant, the difference is in how the leaves are treated, so they'll have many of the same properties). Rooibos is also okay, and shouldn't have caffeine. As far as Tetley tea in particular, you need to read the ingredients list. I would imagine they would be okay, but occasionally there are teas that contain soy or stevia that would not be okay. I had some black Tetley tea the other day and it did not sit well with me. unfortunately I will have to cut that out of my diet as well. The red tea seemed to not cause pain, maybe i will stick with it for a while. Thanks again.
Karen_Suep
Maybe stick to more herbal teas? Peppermint and ginger tend to be gentle on digestion and actually often help, at least with the stomach side of things. I love chai but stopped drinking it as much when I was pregnant with my daughter, so I started drinking an herbal tea with a similar flavor profile. (Celestial Seasonings Bengal Spice... ingredients: cinnamon, roasted chicory, roasted carob, natural spice and vanilla flavors with other natural flavors, ginger, cardamom, black pepper, cloves and nutmeg)

jcheney
Are peppermint and Darjeeling teas allowed on the Whole30?
slc_melissa
It's all about the ingredient list, we can't blanket say yes or no to all peppermint or darjeeling teas. But yes, tea is allowed if all the ingredients are compliant. So, from purely hypothetical products: YES: Peppermint leaves. NO: Peppermint leaves, black tea, soy lecithin.
