Advice! New Athlete, New to Whole30

Recommended Posts

Awesome! I think the two endeavors complement each other well. Some rather general things that came to mind:

Make sure you are eating enough, include a post workout meal in addition to regular meals.

Salt your food.

Drink plenty of water.

If you are adding things like running, think about dropping in some extra starchy vegetables (sweet potatoes and the like) to your meals.

Give yourself recovery days.

The first week of Whole 30 especially can be draining energy-wise, so go easy on yourself workout-wise. (Do still workout, but maybe don't do repeat 400 meter sprints or go for a max squat.)

Keep a workout and/or food journal. Be as specific or general as you please.

Remember that progress (for both a whole 30 and fitness) rarely looking like a straight line. You might have 3 awesome days in a row, then suddenly not be able to run the same distance the next day. It's all part of the journey and every piece helps build something bigger.

And most importantly, have fun!

Let us know how it goes.
