Planning for success!

I am starting my 2nd Whole30 on January 1st. This is not because of any "New Year's resolution." I just wanted to get through the holidays withou guilt over eating holiday treats or drinking a glass of wine. My last Whole30 was succesful, losing 20-some lbs. and gaining SO much energy! I also conquered my cravings for many types of foods, including canned soda and bread. Since then, some non-Whole30-compliant foods have crept back into my food plan, like dairy, legumes, and grains. I can't promise to never eat these foods again after my upcoming Whole30, but I would like to be able to break those cravings so I can limit them to special occasions more easily.

To anyone who has never completed a Whole30, I can attest that you might find yourself craving salads and lean meats! I was more successful on Whole30 than on other eating plans because I have never liked processed foods or those uber-sweet breakfast bars and shakes, and those foods (and I use the term food loosely) just trick your body into thinking you are eating carbs and wreak havoc on your metabolism. After about a week of saying no to added sweeteners, you will probably feel so much better that you won't crave them any more.

The hardest things for me to give up were wine and cheese (two of my main food groups) and they will be the most difficult again, I suspect. Although I know I'm not supposed to emulate non-compliant foods, I still look forward to a glass of sparkling water mixed with all natural apple juice in a stem glass at the end of a hectic day. Sadly, there is just no substitute for cheese for me, and it will probably be the first thing I add back in after my Whole30. All other dairy I can live without. I have been able to cut way back on how much cheese I use when cooking, so at leadt this is a small victory.

Good luck to anyone else embarking on this journey!

No, I stayed on track for about a month afterward, and then slowly dwindled back to eating foods that even I know were not good for me. I started again on Sunday, and have done great so far. Only 3 days, of course. But, last time, it wasn't making it through the Whole30 that was the problem, it was the reintroduction. I love the foods I can eat on Whole30.

I urge you to do a proper reintroduction this time! Don't squander this Whole30 as it is only after a Whole30 that you have the clean slate necessary for a reintroduction. :)

Doing a reintroduction will tell you exactly how cheese or legumes or other foods affect you and give you the information you need to successfully "ride your own bike."

The reintro is as important as the Whole30.
