Crockpot roast challenge

Xandra

Recommended Posts

For years, my favorite crockpot roast was a beef chuck roast with the following mixed together and sprinkled: 1 packet ranch dressing mix, 1 packet Italian dressing mix, 1 packet brown gravy mix.

Obviously not quite W30 compliant. So knowing this flavor mix preference, what crockpot roast recipe would you recommend?

Thank you, Tom. I will try your recipe and I'm sure it will be great. My old recipe is called "To Die For Crock-Pot Roast", which probably isn't too far off the mark. :)

LOL. Good luck with a new recipe Xandra. I have found that after eating more and more whole foods instead of processed foods, my taste buds have changed for the better. Now I love any kind of quality meat whether it is seasoned or not. I just like MEAT! ;)

You might be able to use your old recipe, but make your own Italian dressing mix: http://heavenlyhomemakers.com/more-healthy-salad-dressing-recipes-italian-and-thousand-island and ranch dressing mix: http://heavenlyhomemakers.com/healthy-homemade-salad-dressing-ideas. I've used both of these in recipes and they are great. You could try this (I have not) organic brown gravy mix: http://www.simplyorganic.com/products.php?ct=sogravy&cn=Brown+Gravy+Mix The next time I make crockpot roast, I am going to try this.

Thanks for this idea, too! If you make a crockpot roast like this, don't forget to add at least 1/4 cup of water around the roast so it doesn't burn in the crock.

ETA: Hmm, the first 3 ingredients in that organic brown gravy mix are potato starch, corn syrup solids, and rice flour, so maybe not :). Good idea, though, to try and find a compliant substitute. I'm sure I can figure one out.

sorry, but envelope gravy mix is out, even if it says "healthy" and "organic" on the package. Here are the ingredients in the one you linked:

Organic Potato Starch, Organic Corn Syrup Solids, Organic Brown Rice Flour, Organic Natural Flavor (Organic Beef Flavor, Organic Gum Arabic, Sea Salt), Sea Salt, Organic Carrot, Organic Tomato Powder (Organic Tomato Concentrate, Organic Guar Gum), Organic Onion, Organic Tamari Powder (Organic Soybeans, Organic Maltodextrin, Salt), Organic Garlic, Organic Caramel Color, Silicon Dioxide.

jhmomi's got it right: once your taste buds adjust, real food starts to taste really good. :)

EDIT: oops, now I see Xandra caught this as well...anyway...good to know.

Whichever one you use . . . in addition to the big chunks of veggies you can sautee minced onions, garlic, carrots and celery in your favorite W30-approved fat and spread them on top of the roast. Then deglaze the pan with some water or broth and pour that over the roast. As it cooks in the crock pot, the water will condense on the lid and drop down onto the roast, and those little bits (we call them "tasty little bits") will really help boost the flavor.

I can't eat alliums anymore (garlic, onion), but even just carrots and celery sauteed and poured on top is yummy-making.

We mince the bits in one of the little food processors.

I often make a bunch of batches of tasty little bits and freeze them to add to other recipes for a flavor boost with less work.
