golden
Hi everyone! I first did a W30 a few years ago and am gearing up to start my second one in 3 days. I often cook on my cast iron pans, sometimes with coconut oil, sometimes with grape seed oil, sometimes with vegetable oil. Well I just looked closer on my veggie oil bottle and discovered it's actually 100% soybean oil! I want your advice: should I go through the trouble of washing it with soap to get the oil off and then re-seasoning it with non soybean oil, or should I just stop using the soybean oil and trust that the residue is negligible and will keep lessening over time? Moderators ShannonM816 Posted January 6, 2017 Moderators Share Posted January 6, 2017 I don't have a lot of experience with cast iron, but I found this old thread about buying preseasoned ones, so I'm going to go out on a limb and say it's probably okay. Firstworldwasted
I have not even started my Whole30 yet, so I may be mistaken, but from a scientific standpoint I wouldn't think you need to reseason your cast iron, considering that seasoning in this instance, means developing a polymerized layer on your cast iron pan. You may, however, want to reseason your pan to use it to it's full potential.
