NatalieLynnette
I just turned 33 and my doctor had been checking my blood sugar for the past year and as I have gained weight my blood sugar has climbed and I am in the higher end number of pre diabetes. My husband was just told he is a type 2 diabetic as well. We're both in the same boat but his doctor is following a different course of action for him but at least he knows what I am going through. In December I went for my checkup and my doctor told me to go buy the Whole30 book and follow the program for the next 90 days. This combined with regular excercise (at least 1 hour a day) is her plan for me to loose 10-15lbs before my follow up with her. She also believes weight loss in conjunction the Whole30 will lower my blood sugar. I did my prep work. I eliminated the bad foods from the house , food prepped for this first week and have a work buddy to help me keep on track when i want to give up. I am on day 4 and while I do not have any food cravings I am having the worst time without having sweet coffee. I have been an all day sweet n low and creamer coffee drinker for years and today I am at work and all i can think about is having any kind of coffee with some sweet n low and cream. I am almost at the pint i want to cry! I just hope i can do this for 90 days without having a breakdown!
Ash in the Mountains
You can do it!! It sounds like you did great planning. Changing habits can be so, so hard. And changing a lot at once is even harder! I can't think of many things that can affect my day quite like if I miss my favorite morning beverage. It makes me feel like my whole day is off. When I moved from the East Coast to Colorado I remember hating not being able to get my usual Dunkin Donuts morning coffee. I thought Starbucks tasted awful and it didn't do it for me. But I got used to it. Then, when Dunkin Donuts opened near my home, I had to get used to the taste of Dunkin again...I had become so used to Starbucks that it was my new normal! Anyway, I am sure none of this is helpful but just wanted to let you know that you are not alone.
aprilb
@NatalieLynnette, take heart. You didn't arrive here at this place (your current weight and health) overnight, and you won't reverse things overnight, either. There is a definite ebb and flow to the cravings! So use some of the "distraction" techniques that are recommended (taking a short walk, reading a few pages in your book, calling a friend, etc.) to help ride the craving out. So glad to hear that you have a DOCTOR recommending real food as an rx!! That is amazing and you are fortunate! Keep being proactive! Trust the process! Hugs to you in lieu of sweet, creamy coffee! XOXOXO
