Yellow pigmentation help

Recommended Posts

I am doing my second whole 30. Since doing my first my skin pigmentation has become yellow. I was eating carrots, sweet peppers, and a serving of sweet potato or spaghetti squash almost daily. I am cutting carrots and sweet peppers out. I am going to replace sweet potato/squash with white potato approximately 2x/week but I do not want to eat white/red potatoes every day. I also have a thyroid that tends to run low (I don't know if this has an impact at all).

1) Has any one else had this problem? If so, what did you change?

2) Any other non high carotene starches people use besides white/red potatoes?

Yes it does - this is a fairly common symptom of hypothyroidism and is to do with how the body metabolises Vitamin A. Are you taking meds for it?

It's not that you're eating foods high in vitamin A. It's that your body can't convert the carotene into vitamin A leaving you deficient so you'd probably need to supplement. Vitamin A should be taken alongside protein to improve it's bioavailability. You'd probably also benefit from B12 & magnesium if you're not already taking it.

Foodwise I'd suggest you aim to eat foods rich in selenium - brazil nuts, tuna, turkey, beef liver, & sardines are some good ones.

And if you can get your hands on something like dulse add it to any soups/stews/broths for the iodine.

For the record I am not a Doctor, nor is anyone else here on the forum, so it may be worthwhile speaking to your medical practitioner for additional advice/help or discussing the possiblity of medication being required.
