day 16 and struggling

Guest

Recommended Posts

This isn't my first whole30 but I am struggling this time around. My meals are on template, enough veg, inc. starchy veg every day, enough fat etc.

However my eczema has flared up, I still have headaches, my mental health hasn't improved particularly (I am sat here at work with a massive headache feeling really sluggish, unable to concentrate and wanting to go home) my workouts are feeling harder

I am only on day 16 but it feels like a lifetime! Can someone help/reassure me this will get better? :(

I am struggling too!  My first round felt better than this.  I am using compliant foods to comfort myself because this weekend I've been feeling very triggered by my family's off-limits foods.  Are you having any NSV's at all?  I just looked through Food Freedom Forever and guess what, Melissa writes that many repeat Whole30's feel much harder than the first time. So you are not alone.  Could you also be sick?

Hi, foursimplewords and Nira81.  I am doing my third Whole30 and have found it usually takes me 2-3 weeks to start to feel good and for me to find the energy for my normal workouts.   I also had some weird hormonal evening-out that occurred in each round and affected me in various ways (feeling tired, irritable, migraines, etc.) for a couple of weeks.  Once I turn the corner (between Days 15 and (ugh) 21), I feel great.

I am noticing more subtle non-scale victories this time around because a lot of the healthy habits I established during my other Whole30s had been incorporated in my life (even when not on the Whole30) so it was less of an overhaul to my diet.  I hope you are both feeling better soon!

Here are some additional things you can check: Are you drinking enough water, taking in enough salt & magnesium.  Are you including pre & postWo snacks in addition to your full template meals?  Are you getting enough sleep?

water is 3-4l a day, i salt my food w/ pink himalayan salt (yum) , i take natural calm mag in my water throughout the day,  pre WO is something like 2 boiled eggs or a can of tuna with homemade mayo, postWO is boiled eggs w/o the yoke (i only train once a week with a trainer at the moment)

sleep is variable - quality is very random and fluctuating at the moment

That all sounds good. How about overtraining? (reaching here), otherwise it must be related to the types of foods you are eating. A mod might be able to pinpoint something in your diet. You might want to list specifically what you are eating.

this may help with the types of foods I've been eating

my protein usually swings between eggs, chicken, ground beef,  steak, ground  turkey, tuna

fat is usually homemade mayo, added ghee, EVOO, coconut oil

I have nuts/nut butters VERY occasionally

exercise is only once a week on sat AM at the moment (crossfit PT session) due to time limitations but I'm lightly active daily with horses so lots of walking around etc

sleep I always aim for 8-9 hours due to vestibular migraines but my sleep has been very broken and I'm struggling to stay asleep through the night

my caffeine intake is limited to either none or one in the morning and nothing after lunchtime

I have been using a meditation app to try and help me sleep but no such luck yet
