Starting February 6th!

Hi everybody!  My name is Ashton and I'm starting my Whole30 journey on the 6th!  Yup, the day after the Superbowl!  I also have in my signature a link to my blog page that I use to keep family and friends updated on my journey.

About me:

-30 years old (can't help but notice I'm doing the Whole30 when I'm 30 :-P)

-Recent weight gain due to medications that I'm now off.  Weight gain has exacerbated previous injuries.  Fighting chronic inflammation lately.  Weight gain is not my ultimate goal, but it will help lighten the load, literally.

-I'm a professionally licensed civil engineer.

-I love outdoor activities.

-I love music and hit up the Firefly Music Festival every summer.

-I have two dogs and a cat, none of which are not aware that they aren't human.

-I love cooking and experimenting with food, so let's see where this takes me!

Well,  I'm on Day 4 and to be honest, it's not going that great.  The sugar dragon has been around every moment.  Not to mention that even though everything I've been eating is compliant, I know I'm not eating enough, or well enough.  I don't think I planned my meals well enough.  Taking a step back I think the smarter thing for me to do would be to pick a new start date to give myself more time to plan and prepare.  Has anyone been in a situation like this before?

Lots of people have trouble getting started. I managed to get through my first Whole30 no problem, but it took a few tries to get through later ones -- sometimes due to lack of planning, or food boredom, or whatever.

I would say, if everything you've eaten is compliant, but you feel you're just not eating enough, are you comfortable just carrying on and adding more food? I know some people really need to plan meals, and others don't -- if you don't need a plan, maybe figure out where your meals are lacking and find an easy way to make that happen. For instance, if your protein servings are too small, can you hard boil some eggs and just add a random hard boiled egg to every meal, or grill or bake a bunch of chicken and add a piece at each meal? Or if it's fat, can you find a jar of compliant olives and have a handful with every meal? Or if you're lacking vegetables, make up a big pot of vegetable soup and have a bowl of it with every meal.

When you're eating enough, that'll help a lot to get the sugar dragon to calm down.
