Helene2310
This weekend I was out of town for my friends bachlorette party. I didn't drink so I just drank tonic water with lime. I was just told that tonic water has sugar in it! I had no idea, do I need to start over??!!
Moderators Tom Denham Posted October 23, 2012 Moderators Share Posted October 23, 2012 It depends upon the particular tonic water you were drinking. Some tonic water is sweetened with corn syrup or sugar. Some isn't.
Helene2310
Thank you Tom. I think it would be smart to probably start over then. Bummer! :/
Renee Lee
This is a jargon issue. Was it actually tonic? Or was it seltzer or club soda? The latter two are almost always sugar free. Real tonic water has sugar in it. Being from the northeast, where anything bubbly is referred to as "tonic," I always thought tonic and seltzer were the same thing. I've made this mistake at a bar once and realized it as soon as I took the first sip. If you really had tonic, You technically should restart. If you didn't notice the sweetness and are at all hesitant, i'd just carry on with new info
Helene2310
Yes it was sweet, I don't know why I didn't even think about that! It was definitely tonic water...
