*Aurora*
I just finished my first W30 and am going to continue for another round! Day 1 was today (Feb 8th). Is this your first round? I feel amazing after round 1 - no sugar cravings, my clothes are getting looser... and I lost 16lbs! I still feel I have work to do in my relationship with food (emotional eating), so I'm going to continue another 30 days. We can do this!
NKM
It's nearly the end of day 1 for me too--sort of. I technically started my first whole30 two days ago, but yesterday I realized that I'd already managed to overlook a key no-no ingredient in something I ate -- so I restarted today. *Aurora*
@NKM - Good for you for following through! It's hard... but I'm glad it happened at the beginning for you and not near the end!! @Kam - How was your first couple days? On to Day 3!
NKM
Thanks, @*Aurora*! And you're absolutely right--I'm trying to focus on being thankful that it happened so early on. I hope day two went well for both of you!

I've caught a nasty cold bug, but other then feeling under the weather, I feel good that I am still going strong food wise! How about you guys? NKM
I have to start over again, unfortunately. Switching from 41 years of a 98% vegetarian diet (I was raised pescatarian--mostly veg, fish very occasionally) to the whole 30 diet was overly ambitious and perhaps not terribly well thought out. I felt like I gave it an ok go -- I got over my squeamishness and cooked chicken for the first time in my life; I even cooked beef (which I also cooked for the first time ever a couple of months ago in anticipation of making this leap)--meatballs, chili, etc. But it was jumping into the deep end, and it wreaked havoc on me. The first couple of days (before 2/8, when I realized a dressing I used had a bit of a non-compliant ingredient) were ok. But from the 8th on, I felt positively ill. My digestive system was a mess, and I was in pain, nauseated, etc. I suspect it was going to 0-60 on eating meat/lots of animal protein. No I'm trying to figure out what to do next..build up to being able to eat that much protein? Do the vegetarian version (which the book says isn't a true Whole 30, but perhaps I can actually do it without getting sick)? Right now I'm just mulling my next steps and feeling disappointed that I didn't even make it a full week.
Moderators ShannonM816 Posted February 13, 2017 Moderators Share Posted February 13, 2017 @NKM I don't know if you've seen this article, but it has some tips for people who are trying to start eating meat: http://whole9life.com/2013/02/eating-meat-a-primer-for-the-meat-challenged-2/ It is a big change, just take your time with it, focus mostly on the things you're most comfortable eating, and just add new options occasionally. You might also look into digestive enzymes, they can sometimes be helpful for people who aren't used to eating meat as your body gets used to digesting it. Guest
When I went from vegetarian back to eating meat at first it really messed with my stomach. The first time I ate meat (it was chicken, I was at a BBQ and there was literally nothing but meat options and I was starving) I got so sick afterwards. It does seem like taking it slow is a good idea. There is also a variant of the w30 program for vegetarians, if you want to go back to being pescatarian . I'm on day 8 of my w30 and it's really enforcing for me that I don't like meat much. I don't know if I'll ever be a vegetarian again, because I do like a good steak now and then, but I'm looking forward to getting back to non animal protein sources when this is done. Hugs and luck!
