SummerGirl
I've seen people mention Larabars quite a bit. They aren't available in Ireland but we have bars called 'Nakd' here which I'm thinking might be something similar? The 'Nakd nudie' bars (I didn't make up the name!) are not baked- just the raw ingredients mixed together. Would appreciate if someone could have a look at this link and let me know if the Nakd Nudie's seem to be an equivalent of the US Larabars ( and if you think therefore they'd be Whole30 compliant) Thanks! http://www.naturalba...rs/default.aspx an example of one of them with ingredients list http://www.healthysu...ingerbread.html or http://www.healthysupplies.co.uk/fruit-bar-raw-nakd-cashew.html Are these the type of ingredients in a Larabar? Johnny M
yup! They even look like larabars. Larabars are usually dates, some nuts, some fruit, and some spice.
SummerGirl
Excellent, thanks for that JohnnyM! Glad to hear we have an equivalent over this side of the pond
Derval
Oooh, and here I was all jealous of the Larabars, I've had the Nak'd bars once and they were fine, not all that really..

I've had them before and liked them-the cashew one was nice I thought. They are quite heavy going though-I found it best to cut it up and have a little bit now and then. Johnny M
I like the little bit at a time idea. I can't really eat a whole larabar...i find them overwhelming but once in a while they're a great treat.
Derval
Ok I take it back, had the pecan pie variety this afternoon (in a total slump after a crappy race this morning) and it was yummy. How does the price compare between here & there Johnny? € 1.40 = 1.80936 U.S. dollars I'm thinking they would be so easy to make - a bag of dates and whatever nuts/coconut you have in the house. Homemade would also have the advantage of smaller portion sized bites....
Johnny M
I'm actually not sure what they cost here. I don't really buy them often but I know they're not cheap! A couple years ago I was obsessed with them though and I did learn to make them at home. They're not hard at all! Check this link out - I posted it somewhere else here yesterday http://www.damyhealth.com/2011/03/how-to-make-homemade-lara-bars/
Renee Lee
D, your Nakd bars are more expensive than Larabars. They're usually 1.50USD/48g bar. The Nakd bars are more expensive and only 35g.
Derval
Thanks Renée, not surprised!
SarahFancy
I tried Nakd bars as well and wasn't that impressed. Although pecan pie sounds good! Might have to hit up Evergreen's and try it. And as we know, EVERYTHING is more expensive over here.

They're 1.15 for some reason.

Summer
Is Kerrygold butter made from grass-fed pastured cows milk? What is the scoop on this stuff? I breifly searched and can't find anything quickly so I just thought I would ask.
Renee Lee
Yep! Grassfed dairy!
neylonas
Are all larabars legal or only certain ones? Just a good thing to know in a pinch!
Johnny M
Always check ingredients even if we say a certain brand is ok. For instance, I think Larabar has a peanut flavor which is no bueno!
SummerGirl
I pay between ~2.50USD for a brick (.5#), I believe. Kerrygold is 2.95 (euro) for 454g in most shops here (Ireland).
Andrea D.
I travel to London frequently and always bring back a box or two of the Nakd Bars! I love them...I don't think they are as sweet as a Larabar and they are a bit smaller which I like too!
TMK216
Sorry to ask this here, but is Kerrygold Whole30 approved? I want to try it out but not if it's not allowed!
Johnny M
Kerrygold butter is approved if you clarify it. As whole butter, it is not.
happykate
I just tried a Larabar, that I bought at Trader Joes, it was 1.46 dollars. Then I got nervous (newbie) that I had done a bad thing.....so Larabars are ok? not Ok? There are mixed messages all over the forums; people wanting to give them up, people who eat one everyday...HELP!!!
szwald
I'm loving all the Irish on here, bc next summer my husband and I are heading home for a wedding, and I WILL be picking your brains for the brands I should be looking for to keep me on track! Although I will be splurging on curry chips- can't help it, they are my one true weakness and since you can't really get them over here, they are a special treat for when we are home.
