Can't eat meat or eggs for breakfast...help!

Hello,

I am starting the WHOLE 30 tomorrow morning. Just went to the health food store and loaded up with a ton of good stuff.

After doing alot of reading on this website, I have one major concern about being able to complete the Whole 30. In all honesty, I could happily be a vegetarian forever. I HATE eggs, sausage, bacon etc. Would it be acceptable to drink a smoothie consisting of berries, spinach and organic coconut milk from the can for breakfast? I know that I would be missing the protein.

Thoughts? I would love an answer before I start tomorrow morning.

THANKS SOOOO MUCH for your thoughts.

That would be a no for many reasons. You don't get the same satiety feeling from drinking your meal. Also, the reason you expressed...no protein. There is a Whole30 thread for vegetarians I think. I know nothing about it, but maybe that would help you with your choices. I'll see if I can find it for you and post the link to it.

Maybe you just need to find a way to prepare them to your liking. And, as Missmary said, don't feel like you have to have breakfast, lunch and dinner. In fact, they are often referred to as meal 1, 2 and 3. I often have leftover whatever for my first meal. Today, I had chopped up roast tri tip, cabbage and broccoli all stirred up in a pan with ghee and coconut milk. It was a delightful bowl of goodness. :)

I guess that is true ladies. THANK YOU SO MUCH! I do love nuts and I'm assuming I will be eating a ton of them in the next 30 days. Would a serving be about 1/4 cup? I just bought macadamia, cashews, etc... all raw. It will be hard getting out of the whole "breakfast food" routine. I LOVE my cereal and toast in the morning... which is why I am probably ALWAYS lethargic and unable to make it through the day without a nap.

Have you done a lot of reading on this site or bought the book It Starts With Food? If you happen to have a Kindle, you can download it immediately or order it from Amazon and maybe this site as well. There is a ton of great info with meal templates and basic serving sizes that aren't measured by anything but your hands. I don't do nuts because I find myself grabbing them when I'm not even really hungry. I had to put a stop to that. If you go to the top of this page, you will see the words Whole 30. Click on that and it will explain the program. If you really want to get into it, buy the book. It's wonderful. You can also subscribe to the Daily emails. They are also fabulous. It's uncanny how each email really coresponded to what I was feeling, thinking or doing. :) And these boards are full of knowledgable people so post and ask a lot of questions and read other posts.

My breakfast this morning was wilted arugula, chopped onions, dried cranberries, macadamia nuts, and pulled roast beef.

The beef was from a roast I slow cooked last Friday. I melted coconut oil in my wok and cooked the onions a few minutes while I washed the fresh arugula. I cut the arugula into bite-size pieces and added it to the onion. I added salt, garlic powder, nutmeg, and a generous splash of balsamic vinegar flavored with raspberries. I added a handful of dried cranberries and a handful of salted macadamia nuts. I added a serving of roast beef pulled into bite-size pieces, stirred everything together and ate it when everything was hot. Hmm hmm good. I may have eggs tonight after yoga.

You can always hide eggs, too. I love making a pumpkin/ winter squash custard: toast up 1 oz of crushed nuts (I like a mix of almonds, cashews, and flax/sunflower seeds) in a small saucepan with some coconut oil, add cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger, then whisk in a mixture of 2 eggs, 2/3 cup coconut or almond milk, and 1/2 cup cooked pumpkin/ butternut squash. Stir it like crazy, bring it to a simmer, and let it get nice and thick.

It's a great hot breakfast that keeps me full for a solid six hours, and I'm on my feet all morning (I'm a teacher).

Just do a google search for "Noatmeal" and choose a recipe that makes you drool. You'll get lots of filling protein from eggs without having to, you know, feel like you're eating eggs.
