Jordan's First Whole30

I am on day 3 of my first Whole 30. I wasn't even sure I was going to sign up for the diary but I thought I would like something to keep track of my range of emotions. It's only day 3 and I am fully in the sugar "hangover" mode. Everything has taken massive amounts of energy today, even just writing down my thoughts. I went to bed around 10:30pm last night and slept until 7:00am and someone told me how tired I looked when I rolled into the office.

I am experimenting with the foods, but realizing I need something more substantial in the morning for breakfast. Usually I would just eat a banana, and since starting Whole30 I have been eating a banana smeared with almond butter (compliant). It gives me a natural rush but doesn't last. Normally I would eat dinner around 7:30-8:00pm after getting off work, hitting the gym and walking the dogs but I've found myself not wanting to wait until 6:00pm the past three days.

I think this will ultimately be a healthy endeavor for me and I look forward to posting more about my moods, food and exercise.

Good Luck on your Whole30 journey! I'm on day 5, and today was the first day without the hangover symptoms!  Hopefully your's doesn't last long either!

Happy Whole30'ing:)

Day 5 is the real hangover. I am assuming it's because I have never attempted to pull this much sugar out of my diet and also experiencing the mood swings from lack of carbs as well. I have more energy, or at least learning how to operate within my new parameters but today has me on complete edge and angry. I have to keep reminding myself these are withdrawal symptoms and my body will do anything to get its cravings.

Still, I am standing strong. I started out today with a banana (finished the bunch up from the week, plan to start cooking breakfast this weekend and Monday) and had 3 eggs with spinach and some carrots for lunch. Tonight will be grilled chicken with asparagus. My meals seem simple today but it's mostly because I'm finishing up the groceries from the week and cooking with what I have left.

I would say what I'm looking forward to next week is having a better understanding how I will feel and also having more of an idea what are some go to recipes and what are some great things I really like to eat. I'm continuously improving with my methods and enjoying the challenge. It has been difficult but that's the point.

Thank you for all the support.

I'm on day 2 and completely dreading the sugar hangover that I'm expecting to wake up with tomorrow. I'm doing this from a pretty unhealthy previous diet full of a ton of sugar. I'm hoping I can somehow through the headaches remind myself this is why I'm doing this because I shouldn't get headaches and feel awful from eating Whole Foods. Sending you good vibes and good luck!

Keep up the great work Mack!

It's been a struggle to keep up with whole30 but I have been hanging in there! The results are real and your body does adjust. Right now I am on day 9 and it's been smooth sailing lately. The cravings are intense as always but I feel much more confident in defeating them. I think the program so far can be summed up in that it is a roller-coaster of emotions where one minute you feel amazing and the next minute you want to eat a cheeseburger in bed while crying about how much you've missed them.

I'm staying strong and trying to plan out my meals. Shopping for the second week was SOOOOO much easier than the first where I felt like I didn't have any idea what I was doing. Also, meals are a lot easier to "whip up" than the previous week as I've gotten the hang of coming home and making dinner and cleaning up before 7:00pm sometimes.

I want to add that exercise has helped tremendously. I used to be in great athletic shape many years ago but like most people have lost my form. Whole30 has motivated me to get into the gym every day and chase those endorphins there rather than sitting on the couch drinking a beer and snacking.

I'm really looking forward to tackling the rest of the challenge. I know my most difficult days lie ahead but I see this as a lifestyle change rather than something I am doing for just 30 days. I won't follow the plan completely once I'm finished but it has given me a much healthier relationship with food already, and a better understanding of what I have been putting in my body. The sugar withdrawals taught me that it's something I don't want to go back and experience later in life, so I need to be mindful moving forward.

Also, I have stopped my profuse sweating (which wasn't just working out but my entire life seemed to be drenched in sweat despite having what I thought was slightly healthy physique. The side affects from whole30 have greatly outweighed my cravings.

Keep it up everyone! This is just the first step in many more to come!
