Hi, I am starting Whole30 on the 15th of March.  I had Gastric Sleeve surgery but was not successful because I didn't learn to eat properly.  I lost and gained the same 30-40 pounds in less than 2 years.  My doctor informed me I am pre-diabetic which scared the heck out of me.  She recommended this program, so here I am.  I'm a little nervous because I don't cook and know that it is a large component.  I would appreciate any/all advice.  Thanks!

Most WLS surgeons advise patients to return to the original protocol given after surgery when there is a relapse.  So in working with your surgeon, returning to remission, you were probably given protein targets that you need to meet every day. Do you have a bariatric nutritionist. How do you handle good fats.

You can do this by eating more often, like you did in the beginning. What kind of foods can you handle now?

Thanks for your response.  I haven't visited my surgeon/nutritionist because I feel embarrassed.  I know that is ridiculous but...

I do not have difficulty with any food because of my surgery, I have difficulty because of allergies.  I figured this would be the best plan for me because of the absence of wheat, sugar, dairy etc.

Do you recommend I go back to the protein shakes (post-surgery) before I attempt Whole30?

Judgment free zone here. Don't be embarrassed. Go back to your bari nutri/surgeon. The sooner the better. It's two years and this does not get any easier.  I have more than a handful of relatives who've opted for WLS. The longer they let it go, the harder it was to get back into remission.  Call them and let them help you.  For anyone, WLS patient or not, it takes true grit to manage and maintain the intitial weight loss.  See them and take ISWF with you if you have a copy.

You don't have difficulty with food.  That's good but you need that face-to-face accountability to go back into remission.  You want that now and you want it 10 years now.

Check out a blog. Living After WLS, Kaye Bailey. She's been at it for 12 years, and goes by the book. Pointing the arrow how to return to remission, preventing relapses. Good reading while you're tooling along with your medical pros.  Have you heard about the 5 Day pouch test?
