jannelleq
Hello-I am having no luck finding compliant lunch meats. I live in San Diego county. Does anyone know of any store that carries some? If so, what brand?
Moderators ShannonM816 Posted March 16, 2017 Moderators Share Posted March 16, 2017 Always check your labels, even on brands people recommend, because these things can change over time and even vary from region to region. The only one I've found consistently is Applegate Farms brand roast beef. I did once find some off-brand turkey that was compliant, but it wasn't very good so I never bothered to get it again. Prosciutto is pretty easy to find, but that's not exactly what most people want when they say lunch meat. Honestly, your best bet is to cook a roast or a whole chicken and slice the meat yourself. It's more cost effective, and you know exactly what's in it. If you're needing something quick and easy, cans of tuna, salmon, or other fish may work, or keep hard boiled eggs in the fridge. jannelleq
Thank you! Maybe I will cook a roast and slice it up. I was thinking of wraps for lunch next week.
Sarasaurus
I have found compliant Plainville Farms brand deli turkey at Costco. I'm on the other side of the country, so no idea if it would be available near you, and as Shannon said, always check the ingredients regardless. (Also be aware that without the usual preservatives it will go bad faster than you might expect).
