Hi My first whole 30 and now on day 32....

Recommended Posts

I blew it out yesterday, and pretty much feel like crap.  First let me say that I was completely Whole30 compliant the entire 30 days.  I lost many inches and 14 lbs!!  I FEEL FANTASTIC.  My friend and I did this together because it seems we couldn't drop the weight and it was increasing.  My dr. actually recommended I try it for the chronic pain I have been dealing with for months.

I'm not sure how to do the reintroduction, I have the book it explains it, but I kinda well.... I said I blew it lol, I did.  TOTALLY.  I had plans on having poptarts and coffee with cream and sugar the morning of day 31 but couldn't bring myself to do it so I had, eggs, potatoes and black coffee.  Then I said for lunch I'll have bread and well, I ended up with fruit, and because it was a busy day never got to lunch.  Not much changed on my reintroduction until dinner.  I made lasagna and bought some organic red wine.  I ate it and drank it and well not feeling super today.  I feel tired, which hasn't happened in awhile.... about 30 days to be exact.

My question.  Do we have to reintroduce or can we just ..like..not?  Can I just continue to eat whole30?  It seems to work for me.

Hi Bridget Anne.

I wanted to comment and say I feel the same. Great work with seeing the program through and the results. Fantastic!! I am actually on day 38 and have not started any reintroduction as I am concerned on the reaction and how it will make me feel. I was like you and had all these intentions of foods to bring back and now I have no desire to as I dont want to feel ill. However I think it's more of a power struggle for me. I know they want us to transition and that's the whole point (to see how we react) but it can be so hard to when you know how good it feels now. At any rate I hope you get the answer you need and I offered some encouragement as your not alone on this one :-)

You don't have to reintroduce, physically speaking, this is a healthy way to eat forever. However, the reality is that there is going to be a time at some point in the future when you're not going to have as much control over the food you're eating, you're not going to be able to have something that is perfectly Whole30, so you're just going to have to do the best you can -- but if there's something that you know doesn't agree with you at all, you can probably avoid that. If you know that dairy sends you running for the bathroom immediately, you know to stress no cheese on that restaurant salad, but if gluten doesn't bother you too much, and they bring it out with croutons, you may not worry about that.

Knowing how you react to certain foods can also inform your decisions about what is and isn't worth it when you're somewhere and want to indulge -- because there will be times. Maybe someone makes homemade cookies, or you go to a friend's wedding and want to take part in the toast with champagne or have some of the wedding cake. You'll have an idea of how those things make you react, and can decide if you really want them or not.

I'd recommend reading more about life after Whole30. The book Food Freedom Forever might be helpful for you, but there are also a lot of things you can read online to help you think about how to go forward.  I'd start with these:

Hey Shannon and Kell,

I decided that I don't want to nor do I need to feel bad.  This plan makes me feel energetic, I sleep well, I have less chronic pain, why would I change anything that makes me feel good.  And I agree Shannon I can "treat" myself if I feel like it.  My husband has been sitting next to me every evening for the past 30 days eating fudgesicles every night after dinner, If I can deal with that, I can continue on with this.  I know this works, and I failed at so many other plans once you reach that end date.   I was lost.  Didn't know what to do next.  But because I feel satiated, and energetic and not like I'm missing out, continuing on this plan makes so much sense!

Thanks for the input!
