Nlstir
Hello, I am looking for some advice as I am nearing the end of my Whole30. I have had nothing but wonderful NSVs all the way through this and could not be happier with how my program is going. I am just a little confused with these sudden cravings I am getting. I really didn't have many cravings in the beginning; I ate mainly paleo for the past several years so this wasn't too huge of a change for me. However, now I am nearing the end and am having sudden cravings all the time (chocolate chip cookies!). I am thinking it may be because my mind knows that pretty soon the rules technically "fall of"f, so it's thinking of all the things I could have? I am planning to stay on it another 5-7 days once I finish, just to make sure I am feeling completely solid with the cravings. Immediately following my last day, I am off on a quick trip back to where my family lives cross country and there will be TONS of tempting food everywhere for our family events. I know I will do better completely avoiding it if I consider myself still on my program; luckily my family is super supportive. Admittedly, I am a little nervous for this reintroduction period, if you can't tell. I have known all along that would be the tough part for me. I have not had a single slip up the whole time, and I didn't come this whole way just to start eating all the bad stuff as soon as I'm "done". But I am just nervous as to what these cravings mean and if they are normal. I read in my Whole30 Daily that around day 20-21 they come back with the whole "extinction" concept so that reassured me, but now they are still happening. Can anyone offer some advice or reassurance? Sorry for the long post, but you guys are always so helpful with responses so I wanted to throw it all out there. Administrators ladyshanny Posted March 29, 2017 Administrators Share Posted March 29, 2017 I would guess that day 20-21 in the time line isn't overly far from day 24 and the time line is just a suggestion. Sounds like extinction craving to me and it sounds like you have your mind in the right place for your trip.
J9er
Might I suggest as well that you take the 5-7 days you were planning on staying whole30 and reintro a couple of things before your trip? Even with family support and the best intentions, being out of your rhythm and around tempting food could really take away from some solid reintroductions. It may set you up for higher success if you know how you react to Foods before they're appearing, with no "rules" to contend with. Good luck! Could you elaborate just a little bit as I am unsure of a good example of reintegration. Do you mean like maybe try some cheese in my eggs one morning? I guess I am just confused as the timing. My last day of whole30 is next Tuesday. I don't leave until Thurday. But I was planning on continuing my whole30 as I have been doing it through next weekend and then start reintroduction after that. What do you think of that?
slc_melissa
As long as you have a very solid plan for traveling and are gong to have options at your family thing, you could be fine. However, staying Whole30 compliant, especially if you are flying somewhere and won't have a car available at destination, can be extremely challenging at the very best. Good luck!
