SarahMcElwee
This is my first Whole 30 and so far I'm doing great following it, and I'm on day 7. I ate pretty well before I started so I haven't had many of the negative symptoms. However, I have noticed I am really bloated, like looking a few months pregnant bloated. A sample of my food: Breakfast- 1/4 cup almonds with a piece of fruit and a cup of coffee Lunch- Turkey meat sauce with spaghetti squash Dinner- Chicken breast with broccoli and carrots, spinach salad w/ olive oil -or- 3 scrambled eggs with spinach salad I am working on incorporating more protein into my breakfast, but I am a student with 8 am classes and really do not have time in the morning to make a breakfast and most things with eggs do not reheat well. I meal prep once a week since I have limited access to a kitchen. Any suggestions of why I am still bloated?

I like to just reheat some leftovers from the previous night's dinner so I don't have to fuss with anything early in the morning. Most of the recipes make 2 servings, so if you're just cooking for yourself, you've got the extra serving all set to go in the morning. Or you can make an extra bit batch of something like the chili or chicken cacciatore from the Whole 30 book and freeze the extra in serving sizes to nuke and add to some steamed veggies with oil or butter drizzled over for the fat. CaseyP
Hi Sarah, I think the bloating will likely eventually work itself out. I had it really bad on my last round and thought i must be eating something I was allergic to, but by the end of the second week it was getting resolved. When we start adding more veggies and meat, our stomachs don't have a ready supply of the right kinds of enzymes, which causes bloating. I started taking a dietary Enzyme supplement with almost every meal and find I just feel better in general with them. Also, a quarter cup of almonds is quite a lot of nuts and nuts are quite hard on the digestive system. Soaking them over night will help them to be more easily digested and might help. Nuts are also considered a fat and not a protein so I agree that some kind of leftover meat at least once in a while would be a better breakfast option. You could also boil eggs ahead, and personally I love a leftover frittata either cold or reheated. http://www.epicurious.com/expert-advice/ultimate-easy-frittata-recipe-article this recipe says to bake it, but I make mine in a large frying pan, and it says it can be refrigerated for one day but I have kept mine in the fridge for almost a week. I also love turkey soup for breakfast, cold or reheated.
