CRose
Totally prepared to start my Whole 30, had my two eggs scrambled with a Lara Bar - all compliant Had a business lunch - got the steamed green beans and a tofu dish - FORGOT ABOUT THE TOFU. I'm guessing it's back to restart Day 1 tomorrow

Moderators SugarcubeOD Posted April 11, 2017 Moderators Share Posted April 11, 2017 You may want to take a quick look at the meal template again before you start tomorrow. Larabars are approved for emergencies only, not as part of meals and the template asks for fat and veggies along with the protein at every meal. Jordan5
In the book it says they are not recommended except for emergencies, but it doesn't say that we can't have them in a meal.. that we just shouldn't eat them for a sugar craving. So having it as part of the meal doesn't seem to be against the rules according the book. Only commenting cause I had half of one with my dinner cause I needed more calories/flavors with dinner tonight. But I read that part of the book multiple times to make sure... so has it changed? ArtFossil
Dinner wasn't an emergency. Lots of things are technically compliant but eating them won't bring you the best results. Follow the rules AND the recommendations (including the meal template) if you want to see the most benefits. For more calories, eat more protein, fat and starchy vegetables. For more flavor, break out the spices.
CRose
Thank you for all of the replies. I don't live a 'normal' life. Since starting the program a little over two weeks ago I've woken up in 15 different hotel rooms, in 13 different cities in 6 different countries on three continents. I never attempted this before because my life is constantly 'on the run' as a global sales professional. That being said I've made it work as sometimes for me dinner IS an emergency when there are no non-processed options at an outpost train station in the middle of Belgium due to a railroad worker's strike. Lots of Lara bars (never see them as a sugar replacement as I know the difference between that and some M&Ms (my former favorite sweet) with some Epic bars thrown in. Overall I feel great and have managed not one drink despite several pub and cocktail hour receptions. The journey continues and I remain compliant. One of these days I'll get back home where I've managed to have farm to home delivery setup for veggies, fruits and even chicken and pork.

Wow, your life sounds exhausting, intriguing and exciting all at the same time! As a firm homebody, I would never, ever do what you're doing but it seems so glamorous. My guess is that it totally isn't! Can I ask what you're wanting to get out of doing a Whole30? If it's just basic elimination protocol to find out if you have food sensitivities, then the larabars won't make any difference because as you say, they are actually compliant. On the other hand, if what you're hoping for is regulated hormones, proper hunger signals, improved sleep (although in those different time zones I'll bet that's a tall order), stable energy etc, the larabars are probably going to stand in your way a bit just because of the sugar load that they are (whether you perceive them as sugar or not). Also, if you find yourself with any digestive distress, you might want to find another emergency food because nuts and dried fruits can both cause bloating, diarrhea and excess gas.
