New to Whole30

Hello,

I am new to whole 30.  I joined whole 30 because my niece and my sister started it and just through casual conversations with them I felt that it could help me.  They both have many food intolerances.  I carry an epi pen because I am allergic to something and I have not been able to figure out what it is.  I am starting day 5 with no sleep.  I am not sure why I cannot sleep.  I joined whole 30 because all the weight I lost on an extremely restrictive diet I was gaining back.  I was only allowed to eat 4oz of certain proteins, no fruit,  only certain veggies, no dairy, only 2oz. of starches brown rice and sweet potatoes and no fats.  I did eat every 2and a half hours.    I was also doing extreme workouts too.  Unfortunately my hands were not strong enough to support all my weight and I tore the cartilage in my left wrist.  I had surgery in November to repair it.  I went from hour intense workouts to no workouts.  I thought I had a plan, but as they say the best laid plans. After surgery I found out I was allergic to pain killers so working out was not possible.  Even walking intensified the pain and there was nothing I could take to relive it.   I was in a huge cast so I could not cook anything that I could not do safely one handed.  Eating take out became a sad replacement.  Even making healthier choices left me gaining weight.  Still not back to working out.  It is frustrating because I know it would be beneficial for me.  When I was working out everyday I went to on my way home.  Now I have to work out by myself,  not with a lot of nice people.  I am also terrified of reinjuring my hand since it is not 100%.   I am on day five and have not had to start over so I know I am on the right track. However I am a little worried since I have had almost no sleep today.  Just wanted to say hello and tell a little about where I am at. Thanks for all the posts I have read.  I look forward to being a part of this group and making healthy life changes.

Hey there @Trudester & welcome!

What is your usual bed time routine? Are you spending any time outdoors? Particularly in the morning? Are you eating your first meal within an hour of wakening? Do you take a magnesium supplement?

I am a teacher so yes I spend time out doors, but not too much.  I am taking magnesium.  I don't have a sit down breakfast but I do eat on the way to work.  Not ideal but during the week it is the best I can do.   Sometimes it is a little over an hour depending on what I am eating.  It is weird because when I was drinking over a gallon of diet dr. pepper I had no trouble falling asleep.  Don't worry I am not going back on it.  I have not been hungry so maybe I am not eating enough, but I am listening to my body.  I do have second helpings sometimes if I am still hungry.

Thanks for your insight.  I will do better about what is going on around me.
