Whole30 Log...talking myself out of cravings and pretending I love veggies

DAY 1
It's 3:30pm and so far I feel like I've done nothing but eat, yet I'm ravenous!  It's been easy to stick to compliant food so far - it's only day 1 after all.  Yet no matter how much I'm eat I have felt hungry all day.  Could it be all in my head because I'm telling myself that I'm deprived of what I normally eat?  Possibly.  Is there any way that I see sticking to just 3 meals per day and not leaping off the Whole30 wagon? Absolutely not. (yet?)
Here's to compliant snacking, drinking lots of water and hoping that my body works out that this new healthy food is in fact fuel.

Be sure your meals match the meal template -- eat to the upper end of the ranges listed if you feel hungry. Do be sure you include at least one serving of fat with each meal, in addition to the fat you cook in -- add half an avocado or a heaping handful of olives or a big dollop of mayo to every meal. It'll help keep you satisfied longer.

While you're working on making your meals big enough to keep you satisfied 4-5 hours at a time, if you are hungry between meals, have a mini-meal of protein, fat, and vegetables, or at least two of the three.

Also, have you tried roasted vegetables? Almost every veggie is better roasted. Root vegetables in particular caramelize nicely and have a sweetness to them, but try broccoli or cauliflower roasted until the edges start to look almost burnt. So good. And if you need more ideas for how to season or prepare vegetables, check out this site -- most of the recipes are Whole30 compliant, and the ones that aren't are usually clearly marked, and often have suggestions for how to make them compliant.

Thank you Shannon! That was very helpful.  I made sure my meals followed the template better and they were much more filling.  Days 2 & 3 have gone much better.  I haven't tried the roasted vegetables yet but I look forward to it this weekend.

DAY 3

Throughout days 2 & 3 I have felt incredibly tired.  Sleeping almost the whole day when I wasn't working.  I'm hoping the booming headaches are gone tomorrow and I can manage my day without a long nap.  I haven't been moody yet, so I guess that's still something to look forward to.  Food cravings haven't been too bad.  I only want something I shouldn't have when it's staring me right in the face.  Which wouldn't be as big a problem if I wasn't sharing a dinner table with people having meals I can no longer eat.

At work today I was there maybe 5 minutes before I was faced with my first challenge.  A lovely co-worker approached my desk with a box of freshly made apple fritters from the bakery down the road.  The smell and sight of them actually made my mouth water! But I managed to politely decline and used one of my techniques for dealing with cravings.  I drank a glass of water and re-read today's daily email.  That helped me get past the temptation and get back to work.

Three successful days in!  :D Feeling good!

DAY 5

Today I woke up feeling pretty great. I was actually able to get up out of bed without feeling completely exhausted. I was well rested and didn't have a headache for the first time all week.

I was also very thankful for the Whole30 daily waiting in my inbox this morning. I've been worried about my first weekend on the program. I had originally intended to stay home and avoid any restaurants or bars this month. But life doesn't work like that. I have 2 social engagements this weekend that I am really worried about navigating. But guess what the daily was all about?! I'm feeling much better about the weekend after waking up and starting Friday with that read.

Starting off day 5 feeling great and ready to take on the weekend!

DAY 6?

So last night I went out to celebrate a friends birthday. I managed to not have any of the alcohol, cake, chips or pizza that was offered to me. A pretty big accomplishment in my eyes! I felt really good having turned all that down. However, later in the night everyone went out to a karaoke bar. I was feeling hesitant because I was starting to get pretty hungry by this time of night. Stayed away from drinks by just having club soda like my Whole30 Daily recommended. But then around midnight I was too hungry not to get something to eat. I settled for sweet potato fries that they said were baked. I'm not sure if they fried them instead or just put a bunch of vegetable or canola oil on them first. Or perhaps it was just that I ate so late at night but this morning I do not feel great.

Feeling bloated and heavy when I woke up with a bit of a stomach ache. Not knowing exactly how those fries were prepared bothers me because I don't want to start over but the way I feel right now makes me think I did something wrong :(

I should have packed emergency food but I wasn't planning on being out that late. Worried because I'm going out tonight for another event and will have to navigate eating out again.
