Matt Bat
My mom brought over a pack of Wick Fowler's All Natural Taco Seasoning Mix. It looks whole30 compliant save one ingredient, Comino. I don't know what Comino is or if it is whole30 compliant. Does someone know?
MeadowLily
https://www.fiestaspices.com/product/ground-comino/ Google fu says....it's cumin. Ayup, cumin is compliant. That's actually a clear and direct ingredient list, so many of them have all of that other multi-crap.
Matt Bat
I know, I didn't believe my mother at first that the packet was compliant. Thanks for your help. ---------- Does anyone know... Is there some distinction between Comino and Cumin, anybody know? If Cumin is Comino, then why did they put Comino on the package instead of Cumin. Pretty odd. I speak Spanish and English, and no other words on the package are in Spanish.
Moderators SugarcubeOD Posted April 23, 2017 Moderators Share Posted April 23, 2017 There is no distinction, it's a spanish and english word for the same thing... maybe they thought it made their spice sound exotic?
Matt Bat
The consumer affairs office of Reily Foods didn't know of any distinction either. She told me Comino is the Spanish Version of Cumin, but didn't know what that meant. Meh, okay. I'm tired of trying to figure it out. I'll accept that it is Cumin even though I hate too.... I'm WAY TOO ANALYTICAL (which I think is a good attribute for my Whole30 program). Alright. Enjoy the day! Matt
laura_juggles
It's the same thing. Cumin, comino, same spice, different language. If you've ever watched Guy's Big Bite on the Food Network, he uses the names interchangeably in the same episode. I guess I just don't understand what's so confusing/complicated about it. jmcbn
Comino is also a small Maltese Island - probably not the best thing try to season your Tacos with

jmcbn
Yeah, I've a friend who travels extensively to Malta - I certainly wouldn't mind eating my Tacos there!
MeadowLily
She's a beauty, ain't she now. What I wouldn't give to be lounging on the beach soaking up the sun after 8 months of snow and blizzards. Matt, you speak Spanish. You'd have to come along and read the menus for me.

MeadowLily
We'll always have google-fu, my friends, and that is like having the answer for everything. I have relatives who treat it like a genie in a bottle...what should I do about this and that. Google fu takes care of everything.
