MargaritaN
I am new doing the Whole30. Today is my second day! I'm very excited about this. I was wondering if I need to have a pre and after workout meal if I do a yoga class. This class is mainly stretching and no sweat! Thanks
Moderators ShannonM816 Posted May 3, 2017 Moderators Share Posted May 3, 2017 Pre-workout you might still need if your class is first thing in the morning, since ideally, you want to eat within an hour of waking up -- it doesn't have to be a lot, something like a hard boiled egg or some leftover protein, maybe with a little bit of fat, just a few bites. If you're doing it later in the day and you've eaten a regular meal within a couple of hours before and don't feel hungry or start feeling like you need something part way through the class, you're probably good. Post-workout is most important if you're doing something very strenuous, whether that's really challenging cardio type classes or (especially) strength training, where you'd want some lean protein soon after the workout to help your muscles recover. I could see some yoga venturing into needing post-wo, but if you don't feel like it does, you can try not having it. If after a while, you start feeling like you're not recovering well after class, or you're just more tired than you ought to be, you could try adding in the post-wo and see if it makes a difference. MargaritaN
Thank you Shannon! I'm taking some extra protein and avocado to work and see how I feel after the class! Have a great day!
laura_juggles
Skip the avocado after class. You don't want much, if any, fat in your post workout snack.
