Day 23 and everything seems too fatty

Recommended Posts

I have been absolutely loving the Whole30, including the food. I'm a huge meatatarian and never had much of a sweet tooth. Pasta and bread and cheese have been my downfall. I haven't missed them, because instead of just mindlessly eating as before, I've really gotten into cooking delicious meals and I genuinely have not suffered at all on the program -- until today. I'm on Day 23, woke up feeling a bit nauseous, and the idea of eating any compliant meals makes me feel even more nauseous. EVERYTHING seems way, way too fatty, including eggs. The idea of eating red meat (usually my favorite) seems completely impossible. I realize I don't have to eat red meat, but just want to give you the picture of how I'm feeling. For lunch, I'm going to saute scallops in a tiny bit of olive oil and have with broiled asparagus and mushrooms. Usually I would absolutely be looking forward to this, but today, even scallops seem too fatty when I think about them (even though actually they are not). I'm worried about the week to come. How do I get through this?

Can you give an idea of what you've been eating? My impression is that maybe you are on fat overload. That's unusual but totally possible, especially if you're loving on ghee, homemade mayo and avocados.

Are you making it 4-5 hours between meals or managing to go much longer? Do you wake up hungry in the morning?

You may be on to something. I think it is very possible I am on fat overload. Last night I had a lamb chop and salad (with compliant ranch dressing) and ate every bit of crispy fat; yesterday morning I had bacon and eggs for breakfast, and I also had a handful of pistachio nuts during the day. Also, I have been eating avocados every day. I will cut back. How long do you suppose it will take for me to feel better?

Hi @Chana_C - I really couldn't tell you. Don't cut fat out completely, you still need it, but you might want to just reduce your portions until it sounds good again. Maybe try some lighter fats like whole olives or olive-oil vinaigrette?

Are you making it 4-5 hours between meals?
