Dawnski55
Hi, I am now on day seven and am feeling very tired. Food today has been all 'wrong' as in w30 compliant but not balanced well. I had a banana on first getting up (run out of potassium supplement) and then after a cycle ride I had some ham with home made mayo. Lunch was cooked minced beef (P) with mixed salad (a pasta bowl full with mixed leaves, celery, yellow pepper, tomato and cucumber) and mayo (F) with tomato puree. Days 5 and 6 were great - the headaches had gone and I was feeling full of energy and my mood was much better (I have, and am being treated for, moderate clinical depression). Today I feel lethargic and low and hungry - it is very unusual for me to feel hungry on this plan. Fluid intake is good. Any advice gratefully received Dawn
Moderators ShannonM816 Posted May 6, 2017 Moderators Share Posted May 6, 2017 Some people have found that having fruit in the morning leads to them being hungry later in the day -- even if they're having the fruit with a full template breakfast that would normally keep them satisfied easily until lunch time. That could be part of it. There are other foods rich in potassium -- if you're concerned about that, I'd suggest doing a little research and finding some other options. Not that bananas are bad, you can certainly have a banana if you want it, but there are non-fruit options as well that might be better first thing in the morning as they'd have less impact on blood sugar. For instance, a quick google tells me a cup of cooked broccoli has nearly as much potassium as a medium banana, and cooked winter squash actually has more. I don't know if you cycle ride was just a fun ride that wasn't too strenuous or if it was a real workout -- if it was a workout, you'd have been better off having a pre-workout of protein and fat, and then a post-workout of lean protein and starchy vegetable. If it was more just fun, not really a workout, you might have been better off having breakfast before, and then if you were hungry once you got back afterwards, you could do a mini-meal of protein, fat, and vegetables, or at least two of the three. For now, if you are hungry, eat. Have a mini-meal of protein, fat, and vegetables (or a full meal if you're really hungry). There's no particular reason to be hungry while you do your Whole30. Any activity is a workout for me! I am very overweight and very unfit - although this morning's ride was more of a fun ride really, and just to get me over my fear of riding my new bike. I have a bad knee (cartilage problem) which can cause excruciating pain occasionally and it has made me nervous of moving much. The ride was actually ok. Thanks for the advice re potassium in other than fruit - I will do some research And I do remember people saying about fruit when not part of a meal, and first thing, last time I did this. I will be more careful! I think I might also make up some 'mini meals' to leave in the fridge for when hunger strikes - I tend to think 'snack' still and reach for just one food group.
