Day 28, tired, cranky, and want support

Recommended Posts

I'm on Day 28 and for some reason just want it to be over.  I want a glass of wine.  That's it, just wine.  I plan to continue my Whole30 way of eating, by the way.  But today I'm bummed because my chronic cough has returned, i'm tired, and my tiger blood is gone.  I've happily stayed compiiant and my meals have followed the template except for yesterday when I was out longer than expected and ate both an RX bar and a Larabar over a few hours. Last night I had an excellent dinner both taste wise and template wise.  Any ideas of why I'm feeling so down today and what I should do about it?

"Out longer" + Rx bar + Larabar = feeling like crap.

Just take it one template meal at a time and you'll feel better.

Drinking wine, however, will make you feel worse.

Relax with a cup of tea or sparking water and whatever activity or non-activity calms you.

Whole30 does not do away with ALL of life's ups and downs  But it leaves you better equipped to weather them.

As ArtFossil has said above the two bars yesterday won't have helped with energy levels for sure. As for why you might be feeling so down, it'd be difficult to comment without knowing what you've been eating. Even compliant meals can need some tweaking... And if you're feeling down it could be related to your starch and/or fat intake.

If you'd like more specific advice then feel free to list out what you've eaten over say the past 3-4 days and we can take a better look.

I think it's normal to feel down here and there anyway no matter what we are eating.   It hit me yesterday.  I had a super stressful drive. I was hungry and still needed to drive and it isn't like there is quick gas station snacks that fit this.

I had a sore throat  that makes me down   So it could be other factors than just your diet

you can make it a few more days  !!!!!!  I know it!!!

And I totally empathize   I feel the same way about wine   I miss it   And coffee   :(

One of the things that the Whole30 brings to light is how much we use food to numb our feelings... when that wine or cookie or cake or chip is not available, we end up feeling our feelings... sad, angry, frustrated... it can feel weird because normally the second that 'icky' feeling comes along, we stuff it down and numb it with food... but feeling sad isn't actually such a terrible thing... people get sad... sit in it, sit with it, talk to it and see why it's there... honor yourself and your feelings during this time just like you're honoring your body by feeding it good food.  Feelings aren't bad for you!

I AM sorry you're feeling down tho and there's probaby room for some improvement in your meals, so like @jmcbn has said, list out your meals with template portion sizes, specific veggies, protein, fat, fruits, fluid intake etc... and lets see if we can help give you a boost.

Thank you guys so much!  It's good to know that it might be in part to my food yesterday.  Here's what I've been eating:

Breakfasts are basically 1 1/2 scrambled eggs (I cook 3 for two of us) with sauteed tomatoes and peppers, sometimes I add some potatoes, and always 1/4 avocado. I"ve been having 2 pieces of bacon or a sausage (sugar free) to add some protein.  I use either bacon fat or ghee to saute everything in.  Sometimes I'll have about half a handful of coconut to add some fat.

Lunches have been salads with lots of veggies, a palm sized piece of chicken cut up or salmon, dressing made with 1 T. olive oil and 1T. balsamic vinegar.  The other day we had a delicious chicken waldorf salad with chicken, apple, celery, walnuts and mayo.  Not many veggies there but I was sure to have an extra big salad at dinner.

Dinners have been roasted turkey with green beans and berries with coconut, baked salmon with cucumber dill sauce from the Whole30 book and a salad with avocado and nuts, Walnut Crusted Pork Tenderloin and Pan Roasted Sweet Potatoes and Apples from the Whole30 book.  Last night was a roasted chicken salad at a restaurant.  I checked and there was no sugar in the seasoning on the chicken. Lots of greens and I had them take off the croutons and soy nuts and add half an avocado.

My water intake hasn't been what it should be this week and I've had more root vegetables this week than in the previous weeks.

Tonight's dinner is Pork Chops with Spiced Applesauce and Roasted Sweet Potatoes from the Whole30 book.  Hmmmm, more root vegetables but are sweet potatoes ok to eat often?

About the wine, I'm thinking I want it because it symbolizes relaxation and a nice social time.  I certainly won't have any before Day 31 and I'll probably wait until Day 32.

I feel the same about the wine.   I don't need it.  I just enjoy it.  I enjoy that relaxing / little less control feeling.   I feel my feelings pretty well. Wine and drinking and being social is just something I enjoy.

Your meals don't stand out to me as anything to worry about... a fist sized serving of starchy carbs per day is recommended... I see you sometimes have them, so try and get those every day... often people find they 'work' best for them at the last meal of the day, so maybe switch them to the evening meal?

Other than that, feelings happen and sometimes it's nothing to do with food, altho it could be carry over from the day before...

Keep rocking!

Thank you SugarcubeOD!  I appreciate you taking the time to check out my meals.  I didn't know a serving of starchy carbs per day was recommended.  I do love my starchy carbs!  I'm feeling better mood-wise this evening although I'm still tired.  But, hey, there's no way I would have had the energy to fix the dinners I've been fixing before I started the Whole30 so perhaps I should keep that in mind!

BTW, I dearly love Vancouver, Stanley park, and the Capilano suspension bridge!  I grew up in Seattle, went to college in Bellingham and we went to Vancouver often.

See, that's such a good way of looking at things.. you may not feel like you can leap a tall building but when we think of where we came from and how much better it is now, that's often a huge accomplishment!

Vancouver IS amazing, I'm so glad that you got to experience it!  Stanley Park and the walk around the Seawall at 6am on a summer morning while it's still cool and smells so good is one of my favorite things to do... I don't do it enough, so perhaps I should show my appreciation for this amazing place by visiting the Seawall more often!

I go to Bellingham quite a bit... my American post box is there (;)) as well as Trader Joe's and Target...
