vetgirl
Hello all! I am starting Whole30 on Thurs May 25th for the first time ever. I'm pretty nervous because I am a disaster in the kitchen. I can't cook to save my life, even though I'm in my late 20s living alone and should be able to cook by now. I've been living on take out, fast food, canned soup, and microwave dinners for the last 2-3 years. It's shameful. I feel like I have the will power to get through this, but I'm worried about cooking and meal planning. I'm trying to start having a positive association with cooking instead of a "Oh god, this again?" feeling. I am not doing this with anyone, so I may need this forum for support. I mean, I have support of my friends, but they are not doing this with me. A couple weeks ago, I was stuffing down another fast food meal, and just stopped and thought, "is this really how I want to spend the rest of my life?" God no. I NEED to change. I could stand to lose some (a lot...) weight, but that's not my primary motivation right now. I know that in order to get healthier, I have to change my way of thinking about food. I also have a couple of health issues that I am hoping will be more under control by gaining control of my diet. I have a trip coming up soon after the Whole30, and though I know it will be cutting it close to the end of the 30 days, I'm hoping I will have better control over my cravings and habits so that I can not go too crazy on my trip. I'm incredibly busy right now and work a million hours a week, but I'm hoping that with the right tools and planning, I can get through the 30 days. Any advice, support, etc. is appreciated. I'm going to be browsing the forums today to get as much info after reading the Whole30 book. Thanks for listening (reading?)! :-)

Thanks for listening (reading?)! :-) Check out www.meljoulwan.com and find her weekly cookup posts... you might also consider doing 'hot plates' which means you just precook a bunch of protein and veggies and then assemble with seasoning when you want to eat it. This might actually work well for you given the time of year... salads are big in the summer... cook up some protein and roast up some veggies and then buy a crapton of greens... make a salad with protein, lots of the heartier veggies you cooked, some tomato, cukes, peppers etc... chop some avocado on there and some good salad dressing and voila! Barely cooking
