Oh my gosh, i'm broke and need to shop for a lot of stuff... let's see what i can manage for the first week... thankfully, the local farmers mkt is open Saturday and there are decent prices and great veg options (even grass fed Bison!)

I'll update how my shopping goes on Saturday after I get back

I did my shopping yesterday!  I love our international farmers mkt here.  lots of fresh veg and fruit and fresh meats.  I actually went ahead and started today.  this morning we made the Sausage-Mushroom Frittata for breakfast and honestly and a huge salad for lunch.  I wanted to snack earlier and grabbed a handful of walnuts and a boiled egg.

I'll tell you, my husband is going to have a really hard time with this.  his big thing is coffee... that's all he really ever drinks, so changing his habit there is going to be tough (he's already complaining about not being able to have it - he loves it with sugar and cream and it's almost 5 pm, he'd already would have had 2 pots of coffee and working on a third)

i got 45 mins in on my recumbent bike today also.

I think we've decided on baked salmon steaks, asparagus and smashed potatoes for dinner  =)

And thank you guys for the follows!  Will follow you back and support you, too!

You seem to be very organised, that's great! I was going to ask you what made you start approx 4 days early, but I see you had intended to start May 29th not June 1st!

Regarding your story about your husband's coffee, thankfully I have always liked my Coffee black, no coffee and cream here! I was reading through some of the pitfalls people face on the whole30 though, and I see that one of them is actually that they can't get to sleep! And one of the solutions is to eliminate coffee! I already struggle to sleep sometimes so this is something I may need to seriously consider.

Anyway I think you are off to a really fantastic start and I think you already have this whole30 in the bag! Please spare a thought for myself who is a danger in the kitchen LOL.

Oh! the O word... LOL!  no... i am not in any way, shape or form organized.  i swear i live in a state of crazed chaos.

To be fair, one of my girlfriends at work has prepped me a bit for this journey, and another has been on my case for a while now about making sure i take some time for myself (can't fill someones cup when yours is empty)...plus, I was already trying to eat pretty decent and get in some exercise, because i have this lovely thing called "terminal insomnia".  Doc said i needed to change what i was doing to help re-set my sleep cycles.

And yeah, the day earlier thing.. .lol  my hubs kinda fussed at me, but i was like duuuuude, we already got all this food... one day early isn't gonna kill us.  He's not sulking too bad, he get's to grill steak tomorrow for Memorial Day, so he's happy.  Now if only we could do something about the coffee thing.  I think he could drink it black if he really wanted to, but he LOVES his creamer (the fall, gods he's a pumpkin spice freak!).

I will send you good kitchen vibes! I honestly am not the one who usually cooks around here, so this is a bit of a challenge for me also.  I'm glad there are cookbooks and lots of recipes, because I am cursed with the American Southern style of cooking.... lots of deep frying and really heavy comfort food!  After we are done with Whole30, I'll tell you of some of those bad habits... LOL

Day 2 - may 29th

oh man, lesson learned from yesterday...

Do NOT buy Salmon Steaks... I HATE the bones... next time i'm definitely going to spend the extra $ for the filets... ugh

this morning for breakfast i had the sweet potato, spinach and poached egg recipe from the cookbook.  THAT was delicious, and i was HUNGRY for it.  I've gotten my 45 mins in on the recumbent bike and i'm begging my husband to help me learn some weight exercises. I'm about to down my 4th glass of water also - which is a lot for me by this time in the morning (10:30 am)

i'll probably throw together a salad with the left over salmon from last night for lunch and have some fruit and nuts with it, then dinner will be the steak that the hubs will be grilling, along with smashed potatoes and maybe some sautéed kale and mushrooms

My husband and I started today too!

Used a "vegetti" for the first time to make zucchini noodles with stir fried chicken for dinner.

Making double the amount needed and freezing the extra to cut down on cooking in the future.

So far, so good!

Day 4 - Wednesday May 31

i am soooo tired today!  had a bit of a headache yesterday, and a little twinge of one today.  let's catch up from yesterday

Breakfast was a spinach and tomato omelet, lunch was pretty much the same... boo, i know, i should have done better, but i was lazy

Dinner though, dinner was amazing.  I made the Chili and sweet potato recipe from the Whole30 cookbook.  I left out the beef bone broth (because, gross) and added my own tomatoes that i canned (raw tomatoes with a little salt and lemon juice)... other than that, everything was to the recipe.  It was plenty enough for leftovers (which i had today for lunch with a dab of avocado green goddess dressing - so much yum!)

And i was out like a light yesterday at 9 pm

Today, i had a deconstructed sausage and mushroom frittata for breakfast, the leftover chili and a banana... and tonight it will be slow cooker pork shoulder and I'm thinking asparagus to go with it.

I've wanted something sweet all day.  there are dark chocolate hershey kisses in the pantry calling my name, i keep telling them to shut it, but they keep quietly reminding me they are there... just as much as my bed is

well, i guess i skipped over Day 5 - Thursday June 1st... what did i have?

shoot, i don't even remember... i was busy as crap at work yesterday.  i know i had some blueberries and a banana and an apple sometime during the day.  I know i had eggs for breakfast, but i forget what with.  OH!  i made burgers last night, with a bed of lettuce and tomato with sautéed onions and mushrooms with a side of avocado... that was dinner...

Today, Friday June 2nd

Has nto been any better really... i'm not cheating or eating anything i shouldn't be, but just not eating correctly during my breakfast and lunch meals... i had a banana for breakfast... hamburger patties with mushroom gravy for lunch, and the best meal of the day was dinner... baked chicken breast and sautéed summer squash with red peppers...

i will tell you, i was having some serious cravings for mcdonalds sweet tea and dunkin donuts this afternoon... i mean seeeerious!   but i prevailed and did not cheat  =)

guys, i have been on a family vacation since Sunday.  i have done sooooo good until yesterday.  2 little things... my sister (who's done a whole30 before) tempted me with a ritz cracker, a pat of cream cheese, and a dab of her home made pepper jelly.  i fell off the wagon just a tad, and then at dinner... i had 3 deep fried cauliflower florets with a little dab of blue cheese.  what did i do? (I can tell you, the burps and gross belly feeling after the cauliflower and blue cheese was a reaction that i really did not expect to happen so quickly). i can't do that today, it is sooooo hard to be good around family when it's so much of a reunion situation.  On another note though, we spent almost 4 hours out walking in the woods on a little waterfall tour! it was such fun  <3

today is day 11, (day 1) and i'm getting back on track!

  • 2 weeks later...

omg... what day is today?  i don't even know... June 16... i have just a week and a half left before i finish my Whole30 experience...

i have done really good.  there was only the one day above that i posted about that i wasn't fully compliant.  Shopping has been a bit expensive for just me and my husband (we are trying to incorporate things the kids will enjoy) and my husband literally hates that he hasn't had his regular coffee.  BUT, we both feel better, his diabetes is not acting up, i can tell we've both lost weight, and we have more energy

We even tried out a kickboxing class tonight and decided to join the gym so we can benefit more.  Both of us have decided to continue with the Whole30 lifestyle after the challenge is done... possibly adding in Paleo to give a little more variety in choices.

I can't believe we've made it this far
