Round 1 started June 1!

Hey there! I'm Sara and this is my first time attempting the Whole30. I started June 1. I'm doing this by myself - i tried to convince my husband to do it with me, but when he found out he had to give up beer he was instantly out. Maybe next round :)

The first few days really sucked. I'm starting to get in the groove of things now though. I'm a terrible cook and have never been able to read labels - but i am already starting to see improvement. Honestly, i haven't even attempted any of the recipes from the book because they seem way to time consuming and really confusing. I've just been throwing stuff on the stove, grill, or in the oven and hoping it works. So far so good.

I had my third child in November. I'm little, but this time around I didn't "bounce back" like i did with the other two. I'm approaching 30 and my metabolism has really slowed down. I'm up about 20 pounds from what I used to be. I know i'm still really bloated and am carrying a lot of water weight, so i'm hoping that will diminish through these 30 days. It'd be really nice to be able to wear my wedding ring again!

I also have been diagnosed with chronic neck/back pain recently. The doctor just keeps giving me new medicines though, and i noticed that when I forgot to take my pills I felt 10x more stiff and worse. So i decided to stop them all together in hopes that some type of food is triggering the inflammation. Can you believe the times i went to the specialist, never once did she ask me about my diet? i was paying $300 a doctor visit, and honestly felt like I was doing more harm than good. I'm on day 7 and I'm already starting to feel better.

Ok. Rambling now. Good luck to everyone else out there that is currently on their whole30 journey. We can do this!!!

Starting weight: 125

Welcome! My husband won't give up alcohol either. LOL

Just to be clear, you are on medication for pain and when you forgot to take the pills you were in more pain so you're going to stop taking the pills because they are making it worse? I'm not sure I understand.............I think something probably got lost in the text? ;)

Beautiful family and welcome to your first Whole30.  A bunch of us started on June 1st and there are quite a few who are the only ones in their households doing it so hopefully you will find all the support you need here.  It's all so worth it!

@ladyshanny That part totally didn't make sense - sorry! I was referred by my primary doctor to a rheumatologist in late April. I did a bunch of blood work, she evaluated me (but didn't ask me anything about my diet, exercise, etc) that came back fine, and she couldn't really pin point a diagnosis so she gave me a blanket diagnosis of "chronic back and neck pain" and gave me meloxicam. I ended up having side effects from it - my hair started falling out! But my neck and back were feeling better. I stopped taking it about a week before my next appointment. When I stopped, my neck and back immediately were so stiff. When I went back to the doctor, she gave me another medicine to try. That one made me SO tired i couldn't function at work. So then she gave me another one to try. I decided to not take it and give the whole30 a shot to see if i can pin point something that is causing the inflammation. I can function with the back pain - it's not so severe or debilitating that i can't move. And honestly - after 8 days now on Whole30, my pain has DRAMATICALLY decreased. I don't want to be on medicine for the rest of my life. If after only a few weeks of taking meloxicam, and then stopping because of the side effects made me that stiff for a few days, i can't imagine if i take it for a few years. It just freaks me out to depend on one of these pills. Since they can't tell me the cause of the pain or a proper diagnosis, i feel like they just kinda threw me some pills to help with the pain and sent me on my way.

Last night I did some late night grocery shopping and my son came along and bought the edible cookie dough with his own money - he totally opened it up and started eating it right away. I barely thought about it - didn't crave it ( i love cookie dough!!! )  and kind thought it sounded gross. WIN!

Started to lose that water weight already. I'm feeling less bloated! I didn't take a before picture, so the left picture is from mid February. My husband and i both agree that i looked the exact same before the whole30, and i was the exact same weight. The right picture is on day 7 after a 4 mile run. Woot!
