Ann's Second Whole30

So I'm back. I had a very successful W30 in July-August, and have had ups and downs riding my own bike. Most recently, I have found myself almost right where I started as far as eating habits. My dad has been in and out if the hospital for almost a full month, and between the stress, lack of time (feels like I am always at work or at the hospital), and throw in a giant bowl of Halloween candy, I have recently allowed myself to eat drive thru junk, pizza delivery, or settle for a liquid (wine) dinner. It goes without saying I feel like crap. Insomnia has returned, as well as irritability and general anxiety. Lots of that is because I'm worried about my dad's health, but i know i could "cope" better if I was eating right. And also, I've gained back 3 of the 18 pounds I lost. It's time to reign myself in.

I'm sipping the last of my wine, and then hitting the pillow early (which will be easy bc of the time change). Tomorrow I begin. I'm looking forward to feeling soo much better in just a few days, to reinforcing the things I learned in my first go-round, and to reinforce habits that stick (even during the more stressful times).

Starting out Day 1 on the right foot - omelet with peppers, onion, mushrooms, spinach, made in coconut oil, 1/2 avocado, 1/2 slice high quality bacon, and iced tea. Okay, so the bacon has some sugar ... I was more "pure" on my first W30, but am allowing myself to finish this package of bacon, bc it is high quality, and because I don't struggle terribly with a sugar dragon.

Day 1, Meal 2 - spinach salad w roast beef, olives, asparagus, red onion, peppers, mushrooms, olive oil/balsamic/Dijon dressing, and a handful of grapes, and big glass of water. Felt like nibbling all morning but didn't (just herbal tea in lieu of coffee) - I think knowing that I wasn't going to snack made me want to, I wasn't hungry. post-2493-1352146122166_thumb.jpg

I also snacked a bit this afternoon - a handful of raw almonds at work, and a V-8 when I first got home. And I'm totally wanting a glass of wine, but fortunately there is none in the house. All in all, I'd say a successful first day. 😀

Congrats!!!!! And good job for admitting what's not going so well, what you want to change, and doing something about it!

I must say--- I am totally happy to hear that it is possible to lose weight doing this. Kinda a no brainer, but I keep reading that weight will be lost but not to expect it as this isn't a weight loss program. But consider me not eating crap anymore, no more dairy and sugar... I'm totally expecting a loss!!!

And way to go! Even if you fell off the wagon, or bike I guess, you can get rid of that 3 pounds.... Which really isn't bad, so don't beat yourself up about it.

I'm new to this, and on day 4, going on 5 now. Feeling pretty good, loving this forum, and here to support others as well :)

I'm thinking maybe I should move this thread to the "life after 30" area, because of things like the bacon, and the Applegate salami (sugar) I'm bringing for a late day snack. It's perhaps not a "true" W30 I'm attempting, but 30 days of fairly strict paleo with no wine, to get me back on track. But I do want to post meals because the accountability really helps me stay focused.

Daily 2, meal 3. Eaten quickly at the office so i could head to the hospital to watch election results roll in with my dad. Leftover red curry chicken and steamed asparagus. And a spoonful of coconut butter. Snacked earlier on green grapes and raw almonds.

I think I will go ahead and move back over to my post-30 log. I guess I'm not ready for another Whole30 just now, but if I can keep sticking to what I've done the last two days on a long term basis, I will be happy with myself. But I do want to continue with a log, it helps me a lot to post and to read everyone else's posts. :)
