Mashed Sweet Potato?

Recommended Posts

HI all,

I'm thinking of making Mashed Sweet Potato for Thanksgiving but I've never done it and I'm wondering if it's possible to boil them like white potatoes and just make them fluffy like mashed ones?

Has anyone done this?

Thanks.

Sweet potatoes won't be dry and fluffy like russets, they will be a creamer texture. I love mashed sweet potatoes! I usually boil them in their jackets and then peel after... you could also roast them and mash as well. I season with salt, just a touch of ground white pepper and add a bit of nutmeg (which you could leave out if desired) and non Whole 30, butter and cream, but I bet you could use coconut milk and ghee instead! Course, many many moons ago, I did sweet potato casseroles with a butter/brown sugar/pecan topping--no marshmellows here! but can't do that now!

Mashed sweet potatoes are a staple in my fridge. I peel and slice to about 1/2 inch rounds so they cook quickly. Sometimes I make half sweet potatoes and half rutabagas, all mashed together. Along with kale, broccoli, and cabbage, these are the vegetables we eat the most.
