What constitues a "workout"?

Joy,

I suggest giving it another week or so before adding in pre or post walk foods. Its entirely possible that your body may want some food before or after, but until your energy levels stabilize a bit its hard to tell. In the meantime, make sure you're getting starchy veg in sometime every day

Welcome!

Great, I didn't have starchy anything yesterday, but I have cooked some sweet potatoes today and will take those in for dinner. (ouch, head hurts).

Thanks for the tip.

Next week, how do I determine if I "need" anything pre/post?

The best way to tell is to keep an eye on your energy levels in general, but especially after your exercise. First off, if you're feeling weak or shaky, then you absolutely need to eat. If not, watch for hunger or an energy dip after your walk. If it leaves you feeling wiped out, some starchies and protein will likely solve the problem.
