Whole30, Coconut Allergy

Hello,

I started the Whole30 program today. I love all of the recipes, but almost all of them for this program, as well as the paleo diet in general call for coconut oil, or coconut milk. I am allergic to coconut. What can I use instead of coconut oil, milk, and flour in these recipes?

Hi Stef!

For cooking oil, ghee is an excellent choice. There isn't really a good sub for coconut milk, but you can convert almost any coconut-based curry into a tomato based curry and it'll still taste wonderful. And almond flour is a good sub for coconut flour. You really don't need to use much at all!

For the coconut flour, it depends on what you're using it for. If you're thickening, you can use arrowroot or tapioca. For breading, almond flour. Homemade almond milk would work in some recipes, just use it in moderation.
