goddesslynne
Today is day 14 of my Whole 30, and I'm doing just fine, no cheats. The hardest part for me is staying off the scale, but I've put it away and resisted temptation! However, I've noticed things are quite a bit different in the bathroom. I would have thought that eliminating dairy would improve the, um, volume and consistency of bms, but actually they've decreased! I'm still going 2x in the morning (normal for me) but I'm wondering if anyone else has noticed changes? I guess I was hoping for robust, cleansing sessions on the pot! Feedback welcome!! SCrames
I am totally getting you on this. I know TMI, but its definitely not normal BMs at all. And I feel pain throughout the day. I didn't have this the first week, only starting this week (I am on day 11). I hope this is a good thing?
Robin Strathdee
Hi ladies! It's totally normal for things to be off in this department. Everyone's body adjusts at a different rate, just be patient and things will get better.
Jo Ferris
My sis had issues for a while too... it almost took the entire whole30 to get regular again. I have IBS ... so far poos have been more solid mostly and just as regular. had a bout of loose stool a little bit around day 15 or so but really as long as you are not in pain (poor SCrames (hugs)) I wouldn't worry about it. My sis drank some licorice tea regularly... and once in a while a mild senna tea to help when she was bunged up for too long (I'm talking days, and having discomfort and needing to have BM). But eventually she didn't need to. Hope that helps.
jeepifer
Make sure you're eating adequate fat. It helps, er, smooth things along. It does take the body a bit to adjust. You can put epsom salts in bathwater for a natural magnesium boost, and it's relaxing too! Another thing, your volume ideally will be reduced, 1) because you aren't passing a lot of junk "food" out and 2) you are absorbing and using more of the real food as your intestines heal. TrayS
I had similar issues at first, complicated by the fact that I am gallbladder-less. I will tell you that sweet potatoes have been my miracle cure!! Particularly for issues with not enough volume...

Hmm...never though of this! Now, I am no longer concerned.

Really? I was blocking up our toilet for a few hours, daily.

This is so interesting!! Yes, I was noticing a distinct reduction in volume!! No problem or difficulty "going" if anything it's a tiny bit urgent. All these replies are very enlightening! jeepifer
Really? I was blocking up our toilet for a few hours, daily. I guess it depends on the volume of vegetable matter -- bulky things like lettuce will produce more just by the nature. Raw veggies can be harder to digest/break down, so if you eat a lot of raw, you'd see more as well.

Everyone's body adjusts at a different rate, just be patient and things will get better. Thank you, Robin! I desperately needed to read this. I had few, if any, digestive issues my first two W30s, but I'm having a tough time shaking them this time. I'm on Day 13 - hope to see the gas pains go away soon!! If this wasn't your experience the first time around, you may take a look at how you're doing thing different this time. More fat? More raw veg? Less starchy veg? mochuisle
I snacked on nuts in the afternoon a few times last week, but cut that on Thursday when I started getting gas pains. I also had the same lunch (Spinach Meatballs w Zucchini Pasta) Wed-Sat, so I thought maybe that was the cause. For now, I've increased my water intake (usually 70-90 oz) to well over 100 oz a day over the weekend. When the gas pains started, I stopped taking my probiotic, but I restarted it today. Other than that, my diet is really similar to my last two W30s - starchy veg w breakfast in the am, green veg w every meal, fruit limited to parts of meal (berries on a salad as opposed to snacking on berries). Any thoughts??
MamaDrew
I have had that same issue too! Mine have been significantly reduced. I had a lot of pain and bloating but that seems to have stopped, I did take a probiotic and drank kombucha. But the volume is practically non-existant. I drank "smooth move" tea last night because I hadn't gone in a few days!! It worked well thankfully My husband is the exact opposite, we are both doing our first Whole30 and he has been having WAY increased volume, so I don't really know what's up with that. mochuisle
I may head out tomorrow to get some Smooth Move! I'd try kombucha but I have yeast sensitivity, so I can't eat/drink anything that is fermented. Actually, my stomach feels the way it does when I've had a few beers - bleh
