Second Attempt.

I tried a Whole 30 a few months ago and stopped on day 23, started bingeing.

I've been scared to try again, mostly out of failure and having the same thing happen.

Anyhow, going to start again tomorrow and try another one. I did get some good stuff from my first attempt: found out I'm probably intolerant to gluten and/or wheat so I've stopped eating it almost completely. Also, I quit eating any dairy and took it out of my kid's diets as well. I took gluten/wheat out of their diets too.

I just have some issues with eating fast food here, a donut there. It's usually when my husband wants to grab junk food -- I find myself going with him.

Anyhow, looking forward to starting a new Whole30 tomorrow!

My only issue will be giving up bacon with breakfast and my almond milk creamer with coffee. Wish it was possible to make 2 exceptions. Hah.

You do understand bacon is allowed. Provided that all the ingredients fit the whole 30 parameters. meaning no sugar (or any other version of sugar) Soy, dairy or gluten is involved. However I have found that bacon is relatively hard to find. So I have subbed proscuitto (pork, pepper, salt) which is easier and can be fried up as well.

Yep! Just can't find any Whole 30 compliant bacon near me (which is weird as I live in Seattle and it's very "crunchy"). I tried to order some online but it was always sold out. Will look again.

Good luck tori. Have you tried coconut milk in your coffee? I gave up bacon but others have either found compliant bacon, fried up compliant prosciutto, made their own by frying thin sliced seasoned pork?

I haven't tried any coconut milk but that's a really good suggestion. I'll try it. Can't find compliant bacon but what a good idea you have. Thanks!

Coconut milk is so good if you have good coffee! I had no idea and didn't even notice a difference. It was delicious, thanks.

Day 1...

Breakfast:

- 2-3 scrambled eggs (I scramble my eggs with my kid's eggs so I'm not exactly sure how many I ate) -- scrambled in coconut oil

- 1/3 of an avocado

- kale, strawberry, banana, coconut milk smoothie (just had a small glass and split the rest with my kids)

- coffee with coconut milk (having a hard time drinking the coffee because I'm so full from everything else)

Lunch:

- 1 pork chop cooked in olive oil and lemon pepper seasoning

- brussel sprouts and diced white mushrooms broiled in olive oil

Dinner: chicken drumsticks, red potato and broccoli baked in olive oil and lemon pepper.

Anyone else feel like lunch is the most difficult meal? I sometimes feel like skipping it, just because eating a sandwich is so engrained, and it's difficult for me to eat what feels like dinner, at lunch time.

Day 2...

Breakfast:

- 2-3 eggs scrambled in coconut oil, 1/2 of an avocado, and a kale/strawberry/coconut milk smoothie (small)

- 1 cup of coffee with a bit of coconut milk

Lunch:

- leftovers from dinner (2 chicken drumsticks, some sliced/baked red potatoes, and broccoli)

Dinner: (oops, didn't plan well and forgot we had a birthday party to attend. I stayed away from the pizza and cake but was STARVING when we got home)

- leftover pork chop from yesterday's lunch, small piece of leftover steak, and 1 apple

*My anxiety was way less yesterday, which I'm beginning to wonder what is it that I'm eating that could cause anxiety. I haven't looked into it much but I think I will today. I'm assuming it's either gluten/wheat or sugar, as those are the things I eat that aren't "Whole 30", usually. It feels like mood will be even all day long then I'll eat a large meal out for dinner with my husband and after a bit I have bad anxiety.

I think she's saying that already, on Day 2 of her Whole30, she's noticing reduction in the anxiety she attributes to eating gluten and sugar when not on the Whole30 (as in, three days ago). But I am not PaleoTori, nor do I play her on TV, hehe, so we will wait for ultimate clarification from the source.

I am confused. You are eating gluten and sugar when you go out while doing a W30 or was that a typo?

Haha, "normally" when I eat and I'm not doing a Whole 30 I will eat gluten and sugar. I've completely stopped eating dairy. So I'm curious as to which one could be causing me to feel anxious (if that's possible) when I'm not doing a Whole 30. I've had another day with very little anxiety -- today (day 2).

I had one of those dreams I've heard about in the book and on the forums (I think it was in the book but I read that awhile ago). I was stuffing my face with donuts, etc. I woke up upset because I'd ruined my Whole 30, then felt relief when I realized it was a dream.

I actually thought it humorous because it didn't happen during my first attempt at a Whole 30, it was just something I'd heard about.

Anyhow, Day 3...

Breakfast:

- 3 eggs scrambled in coconut oil and a handful of strawberries

- 1 cup of decaf coffee with coconut milk added

Lunch:

- 3 chicken drumsticks baked in olive oil and lemon pepper

- 1 large raw carrot

Dinner: (more leftovers)

- 2 chicken drumsticks, a piece of broiled salmon, and 1 large raw carrot

Snack: (got really hungry before bed)

- 1 banana

- handful of nuts

* I'm having major cravings today for donuts. This happened with my last Whole 30 and it's why I quit. The cravings wouldn't go away, even after days. Ugh.

* I drink decaf because of my anxiety issues. I'm trying to wean off of caffeine altogether. I don't drink soda and haven't in years so coffee is my big problem, especially living in Seattle where it's part of the culture.

hey we are decaf buds!! I don't like to drink caffeinated coffee much either as I find it keeps me awake all night! Looks like you're off to a great start and good on you for resisting at the party! :)

Thanks! Yes, I've always wished caffeine didn't bother me because it actually helps to suppress my appetite. But it makes me feel very agitated and messes with my sleep cycle as well.

Once again I dreamt that I ate something off the plan. This time though it was more tame than a bunch of donuts. I had some bites of a piece of bread, then threw it down on the ground. I started debating whether I had to restart my Whole 30 or not, then I woke up. This is actually making me laugh. Also, I woke up feeling like CRAP today -- slept until 10am (that never happens) and felt very groggy and weird this morning.

On with the show...

Day 4...

Breakfast:

- 3 eggs scrambled in coconut oil

- 1 cup of decaf coffee with a good amount of coconut milk added for fat

- 1 banana

Lunch:

- 1 green bell pepper stuffed with ground beef, cooked in olive oil and lemon pepper

Tea: 1 cup of organic chamomile tea

Dinner:

- 1 pork chop cooked in olive oil and lemon pepper

- broiled potato, broccoli, brussel sprouts, and mushrooms with olive oil and lemon pepper

I felt pretty irritable today. Was snappy at my husband and brother, which isn't like me. Had to apologize and blame my Whole 30. Haha. I do feel like it's more difficult this time in regards to side effects. The first time I tried I wasn't eating anything non-paleo for awhile before I started, but the carb cravings have been bad both times. Still craving brownies, donuts throughout the day. Stuff I don't usually crave. Looking forward to this part being over.

Exhausted today. My kids woke up very early, woke me up, then they passed back out leaving me wide awake.

I have a large zit on my chin. Argh! I know this can be a side effect so I'm looking forward to my skin clearing up.

Day 5...

Breakfast:

- 3 eggs scrambled in coconut oil

- small kale/banana/coconut milk smoothie

- 1 cup of decaf coffee with coconut milk added

Lunch:

- small amount of leftover hamburger meat

- 1 small pork chop (leftovers from last night's dinner)

- broccoli and brussel sprouts

Snack:

- 1 banana

- 1 cup of chamomile tea

Dinner: (breakfast for dinner)

- 3 eggs scrambled in coconut oil

- 1/2 of an avocado

Snack: (didn't eat enough for dinner)

- 1 banana

- 2 eggs fried in olive oil

Day 6...

Breakfast:

- 3-4 eggs scrambled in coconut oil

- 1/3-1/2 of a large avocado

- 1 cup of decaf coffee with coconut milk

Lunch:

- 4 chicken drumsticks baked in olive oil and lemon pepper

- sliced and baked potato with lemon pepper

- broccoli and sliced mushrooms baked in lemon pepper

Dinner:

- 3 chicken drumsticks baked in olive oil and lemon pepper

- baked mushroom slices, potato, and broccoli in in lemon pepper

Having a lot of cravings. I really would love to stop craving pastries!

* I think the most difficult part of the Whole 30 for me is having such young kids. I feel like I'm cooking and feeding people all day long, as I have them eating the same meals I do. A lot of times I'm dealing with them and end up with a cold plate of eggs, or have my 2 year old screaming that I give him my food, even though he has the exact same thing on his tray.

Today I took them to a bunce house festival at a local community center and there was hot cocoa and tons of cookies, brownies, and my favorite: chocolate covered pretzels. I did let my toddler indulge but I didn't touch it. Then he started screaming for cookies after I told him he'd had enough (he really had). It was embarrassing so I tried to book it home and get them down for their naps, then realized I was starving and all I had to cook was chicken drumsticks, which takes an hour. I was dying from hunger while waiting for it to be done, haha.

Randomly venting about weird things because I doubt many people read this...hope everyone is doing well with their 30 days!

Day 7...

Breakfast:

- 3 eggs scrambled in coconut oil

- 1/3 of an avocado

- 1 cup of decaf with coconut milk

Lunch:

- 3 chicken drumsticks baked in olive oil and lemon pepper

- 1 medium raw carrot

Snack:

- spoonful of sunflower seed butter

Dinner:

- organic, grass fed top round steak - pan cooked in olive oil and lemon pepper

- broiled brussel sprouts and potato slices, in olive oil and lemon salt

The cravings for pastries are very bad and seem to be getting stronger every day. One good thing is they don't last too long like last time. I really fixated on them during my first attempt at a Whole 30 and would crave all day long.

* I'm back on some meds that make it really difficult for me to rationalize with my brain when it's telling me to binge eat. Really fighting but ugh, need to speak to my doctor about this.
