AHHHHH!

GettingHEALTHY

Recommended Posts

For the past two years I have felt like crap, because I am eating like crap (duh) and excercising irregularly. Yes, no surprise. My skin is dry, I am tired all of the time, and am 40lbs. overweight after having my son. Needless to say I am excited to get healthy again. A few friends raved about whole this so I thought I would give it a shot. So I started the day I started the book, unfortunately I read slow, and realized that almond milk was not allowed or Lara bars, they say pecans and dates so I thought since they were on the list I could eat them...dang it, because they are soooo delicious! Then after I finished the book I made a ton of sticky notes and grocery lists....thought I had it, now after reading the blogs I realize that I am drinking the wrong coconut milk, and so I have been doing this for a week, but wasn't really "on" the program, so today I officially begin again! I drove to a health food store with my list and had someone help me get everything...unrefined or refined coconut oil?.....Have Mercy, am I the only one with a major learning curve that is living in the sticks?!! At any rate I am already feeling better, but have not officially even started. I am going to get this if it takes me four months! I will feel and look better, it may just take me longer than everyone else!

Welcome Getting HEALTHY :). You're not alone - there is a learning curve and we all learn as we go sometimes. Almond milk itself is allowed - it's just that it's hard to find almond milk that does not come packaged with non-compliant ingredients like carrageenan. Also, Larabars are also allowed in that the ingredients are compliant, but they are not the best choice for a snack. Many people have an unhealthy psychological relationship with them because of the sweetness - it's almost like having a candy bar. So, if those bars may make you overeat them or go to them before reaching for a healthier, more substantial snack (think small meal of protein/veg/fat) then you are right that you shouldn't eat them. I'm glad that you are feeling better already - you certainly have a lot to be proud of - especially with your positive attitude. I found the forums to be a great help when I started my first Whole30 so I knew if I was doing it "right" :). Again, welcome, and best of luck to you!

Thanks so much! Yes, I can tell that the forum is going to be great for encouragement and KNOWLEDGE for sure! I have a little one and am a foster parent, so I think I was addicted to the lara bar, since it is quick and easy. I have lived in my house for two years and turned on my oven for the first time after starting this program! I am sure I will learn to "tolerate" cooking; I know all the kids are grateful I started making homemade breakfast, instead of cereal and oatmeal!!

I love you attitude! and think of everything that you have done already as practice and learning experiences. Yes, there is a TON to take in all at once which is why I personally favour the long ramp up approach. I think it is just too much to take in all at once. I spent a good month and a half reading, reading, reading, preparing, cleaning out my kitchen, reading, testing recipes (make mayo then thank me later).

I will now vilify Lara bars...while "technically" compliant they are basically a paleo-ified treat in my books. A random one stashed in your purse eaten ONCE in a Whole30 to prevent eating a non-compliant *might* be ok in my book but having one day is only continues to foster unhealthy habits with food. Plus, if you are eating those (they are still processed!) you are crowding out real, whole foods. There is lots of time for Lara bars post W30 (hint: make your own....sooo much better...I make "raw ballz" that are just like Lara bars but better. I will be making those on Day61...I'm doing a Whole60 and I'm on Day 18 100% compliant). Lots of other things are quick and easy like raw veggies and dip (dip = mayo and seasonings), hard boiled eggs are super fast.

I am also a mama of 2 little toddlers so I TOTALLY get all the challenges of "being mama".

Lots of luck!!

I'm with Mjam....

Also important to stay wayyyy ahead on your meal plans and stock up and give yourself a minimum " par" so you don't you run out of essentials..... Best way to sabotage yourself is to run out of good food choices and give yourself the excuse to go off plan.... This will also set up very very good habits for the future when you are finished 30 days

I always have several protein choices in the freezer, 10 cans of coconut milk, several coconut oil, olive oil, lots of emergency frozen vegetables, in the freezer, a ton of fresh veg choices ( if anything starts to " ripen to quick" I dice it up and throw it in my soup starter Tupperware in the freezer then make a hearty soup) min of a dozen sweet potatoes, avocados..... Little fruit or nuts ( I avoid them, just condiments for salads etc.)

Anyway if you set yourself up for success, you will succeed ......
