Post Holiday Whole37 12/26/12-1/31/13

Starting a much needed post holiday W37. As I've mentioned before, I work at Trader Joe's. Dealing with sampling all the holiday treats has really taken a huge toll on the ol' bod; my sugar dragon has really won this round. The good thing about starting on the 26th is that New Years Eve and Day are not big cheat holidays for me; I don't drink. Also, this year since I have no celebration plans, so pigs in a blanket and cheese are not a temptation. After the December I've had, I don't even want to look at a single refined carbohydrate again until it's hot enough for popsicles.

The last Whole30 I did let me know that I was lactose intolerant. I'd like to give myself more time to reintroduce foods and do it the correct way, now that I understand other foods might be permanently off the table. Also letting go of regular coffee since it's not kind to my rather horrible PMS symptoms. Last time I used dried fruit and nuts as major crutches; this time I would like to embrace fat more and really hit myself over the head with a plentitude of veggies. One poster said 3 kinds per meal and 2 cups at a time. OK. Going to be making food in batches every week and concentrating on freshness, variety, and seasonality. A little less fresh fruit, more veggies.

I am with you!! I originally planned to start my Whole30 on January 1 but I have been so awful over the last month that I have totally hit bottom with my unhealthy eating and lifestyle. I can't wait until January 1 to start so today is my day 1!!!

How did everyone do on Day1? It was tough at dinner time. After work, my son had an out of town hockey game. We didn't get home until after 8 and needed to eat dinner. Everyone was eating grilled cheese, sandwiches, or cereal. I steamed some broccoli and scrambled some eggs. Nothing gourmet, but it was compliant and I felt good eating it.

I'm going to take pictures and measurements today. Scary stuff!

Pictures and measurements? UGH!

Food wise, day one was pretty easy. I took the advice of many other posters and spent most of Sunday making food for the week. I felt well prepared when I got home from work, which is usually when I make the worst food choices.

I did struggle with drinking coffee without milk or sugar. Perhaps it's an acquired taste?

Just finishing day two like the rest of you. No real issues yet except I AM hungry. These meals seem fine enough but not eating between them is kinda tough. My biggest challenge is trying to do this while making food and snacks for my toddler twins. There is no way that I was going to try to get them to do this as well. Don't have the emotional fortitude to deal with my changes and theirs at the same time. So I'm all on my own here. Except for the forum....

411 I'm on my own too. My husband and kids eat the meals I make, but the house is full of the snacks they like. I have twins as well, but they are 12 now, and a 15yo. I don't even tell them I am doing this. I'm the chef and ill make potatoes or rice to go with the meal and then I just don't eat it.

I took measurements yesterday, but didn't get the pictures done. Maybe today ill do that.

Ooh thanks for the picture reminder. I did measurements and weight at the start but forgot the pic. I'll get that done tonight. 10% complete. The other 90 should be a breeze right??

So what does it mean if you aren't suffering carb flu symptoms?? And it is definitely Not due to good eating habits pre-Whole30.

I started today!! First time starting a Whole30 so I am pretty scared. Excited too though. I had smoked salmon and eggs this morning, now off to the store to grab some ingredients for recipes in the 'Well Fed' recipe book! Quick question....what do you usually eat for breakfast that incorporates protein, fat and veggies?

The easiest thing to do is make a breakfast casserole that can be portioned and frozen/reheated as needed. Also, think outside the box. A lot of people here eat leftovers from last night's dinner for breakfast. We are trained in the rut of breakfast foods being a totally different set of foods than what we eat the rest of the day. There's no real reason for this. I try to cook up a pound of bacon, or some homemade sausage (ground pork and spices) at the beginning of the week so I have something I can make quickly with minimal clean-up while frying some eggs on busy mornings. Or have an omelette with avocado, tomato, and whatever is left from dinner.

Breakfast. If we don't have too crazy a weekend and I can do food prep on Sunday, I make egg muffins. I cook some chopped veggies, spray a cupcake pan with oil, put veggies I each spot, beat a dozen eggs and lad them on top of the veggies. Cool that in the oven @ 350 for 30 minutes.

If I can't get that done, I just eat leftovers.
