Framed Cooks

Starting January 2!

Recommended Posts

This is my first Whole30. I spent most of yesterday buying compliant ingredients. Today, I’ve made the bone broth and ghee. I’ll probably have Big Turkey Meatballs with Roasted Cherry Tomatoes for my first meal.  This is out of Fast & Easy. I bought double so I can freeze a lot. There is only me to cook for, so this will be like big batch cooking most of the time. I never eat breakfast, but I think I’ll make some sort of egg cups in a muffin pan. I’m able to eat at my desk, so I can just pop these in the microwave when I get to work. Or maybe the Roasted Potato and Kale Hash with Eggs. Not sure how that will hold up over a week, though. My biggest problem I seem to be facing is no coffee creamer. I tried coconut cream today, but it would take a ton to make it potable for me. I may have to go to tea.

That’s good advice! I’m starting a boot camp on Tuesday and figured for the first few weeks I’d just consume my time with that and be a bit antisocial until the cravings settle. Did you do anything like that on previous whole 30s or were you still able to be social and just resist temptation right off the bat?

Hey Erin!  When we did our first W30 (and I know this sounds a little crazy but it was fun) we did a Saturday night dinner party each weekend.  Our friends knew they were getting compliant food, and we did let THEM have wine with dinner - we had sparkling water with lime.  It livened up the weekends, when we are used to going out to dinner, but let us completely control what was on the menu.  This time around we are doing W30 with another couple, and are going to spend alternate weekends at each other's houses.  It's really great to do with with a group! :)

Hey Garden Gal!  If you are looking for a lovely tea, try Sleepytime Vanilla - it has such a nice taste all on its own - I have it in the morning and at night.

Just want to introduce myself as I'm also starting on January 2nd!

I'm Alice, 27 years old, live in London, this is my first Whole30. I'm hoping to set up some good habits for my future, and try and curb some of the cravings I get for sugary sweet foods!

Thanks for sharing your recipe - I'll give it a go!

Alice

Hi Alice!  My pleasure and let me know if you need any other recipes - I have a lot of them after multiple W30s! :)

Which book was that from? I’m almost through the Whole 30 book and it doesn’t have a chapter on alcohol. I’m a big nerd so the more I read and prepare, the more ready I’ll feel :)

I honestly don’t remember where I read it, I’ve read so much too. I’ll try to find it for you.

I’m starting January 1st.  This will be my second round (I’ve had a few round 2’s that were not successful).  This month I will knock it out of the park.  With my first round it almost seemed easy.  My attempts since then have been totally different.  It’s like I now know I can do it, I’ve proved it once already.  There were many benefits to my first round.  I suffer from migraines, sleep disturbance, high blood pressure and depression.  By day 15 of round one I had dropped the frequency of a headache/migraine by 50%.  My attitude was better as proclaimed by my husband, lol.  By the end I was playing with my blood pressure medicine because I was getting light headed and dizzy when I stood up.  I started taking it every other day and was doing good.  Then I tried to stop it.  That was not as successful.  And I lost 20 pounds.  I’m an ER nurse and one of my coworkers told me one day “you need to buy smaller scrubs”.  I smiled at her and said “thanks, that’s a good problem to have”.  The problem I truly struggle with the most is that I HATE cooking.  It’s not possible to do Whole 30 and not cook pretty much daily.

I will be successful this time!  I will look to this forum and my Facebook groups that I’ve joined to get me there.  Bring on January 1, 2018!!!

I'm having the same issue about my morning coffee! I'm going to try swapping my morning cup with a healthy tea alternative my dad makes thats actually really tasty that you might want to try - for 16 oz hot water: 2 tsp matcha green tea, 2 tsp cinnamon, 2 tsp ground or juiced fresh ginger and 1/2 or whole lemon. My dad also adds raw honey but I don't think that's allowed on the W30

It’s in the Whole 30 book between Slaying the Sugar Dragon and Not Even the Grains. It’s like page 14 on my phone with the Kindle app, but it’s pretty early in the book.

Its not gonna be easy, I’ve been a daily drinker most of my adult life, so for me this is my “Dragon”.  Let’s stay in touch so we can support each other.

I'm also starting my first Whole30 on January 2nd! I can't wait to hear from everyone about their experiences.

I've done all my shopping and have my recipes picked out for my first week. Does anyone have any good recipes for quick weekday breakfasts?

Hi everyone! I am starting on January 2nd also.  I got married super recently, (12/16/17) and let's just say since then I've gone off the wagon with our mini-moon, Christmas.. and just being stress -free from planning the wedding! I am very ready both physically and emotionally for this much needed reset. I have attempted whole30 before but never completely finished. I have never had a great relationship with food (bingeing, post binge guilt, etc etc etc), and this is exactly what I need to help fix it. I am really excited for this - Sunday and Monday are my food shopping and prepping days. Great to meet you all!

Hi Kelly - good for you for doing this so soon after your wedding! I got married 2+ years ago, and have been semi-off the wagon ever since! I am looking forward to a reset for many of the same reasons!

My breakfast are really simple, an apple and couple eggs, berries and some almonds. But I want to try making some mini omlets in the muffin tin and freeze them.  My husband is doing it with me so I have support there.

Lunch will be skinny soup of some sort

Dinners will be a lean meat and roasted veggies

Thing I’ll miss most....wine:/

Hey gang. Will be starting my 1st Whole30 on January 2nd, I’d lost about 35 pounds a couple years ago but job/life issues derailed me and it all came back in when I allowed emotional eating to take control again. My goal is to detox from processed food and reset from those bad habits! I know I can do this, hubby is on board to help (we’ll see if he fully joins in) plus have a good friend at work who is doing the program. Today was grocery shopping and tomorrow  Jan 1 will be meal prep day.

I saw the Blue Apron deal on the whole30 website and am thinking about it to help keep momentum towards the end of weeks when I know I tend to get lazy in the kitchen. Anyone have experience with them?

Hello!  I'm starting my 3rd W30 on Tuesday.  Happy to join you guys.

For those that have expressed concern over coffee creamer, I must tell you that since my first W30, 3 years ago, I've taken my coffee black, by choice.  I never would have thunk it.  I have also not gone back to Raisin Bran (or any cereal) for breakfast, also haven't had a glass of milk.  These were not really intentional, I just don't want them, don't think about them, any more.

My challenge is alcohol.  I love a martini and a glass or two or three of red wine.  But, I've abstained before and I know I can do it.

What propels me this time is 1) my weight makes me unhappy and 2) I remember HOW GOOD I felt on my prior W30's.

Good luck everybody!!!

Starting my 1st W30 on the 2nd as well! I'm not as intimidated by the food part of it as I am by 30 days without alcohol. I'm an attorney and my social life and friends all tend to revolve around alcohol. This is my primarily why I wanted to do the W30 - I realize my indulgences have become habits.  Eek! Well here goes nothing.  I'd love an accountability partner or partners, especially if someone is in the same boat as I am. I'm excited to start 2018 off on a healthy and positive note. Let's do this!

Glad to see your post!  I am also looking to keep my indulgences in check :-)  This is my second Whole 30, the first was about four years ago and I am excited to start again!

Hi all! This is my second time doing the Whole30. I had really bad depression in 2017, so I'm hoping the diet will help with that.
I had forgotten how expensive buying all this food can be -- I'll have to look for some less-costly options.
Good luck to you all!

So sorry, but can’t seem to figure out how to reply to individuals. So, bulk response:

Thanks for the recommendation of the tea, but I will need the caffeine.

Someone mentioned fruit with breakfast. I thought fruit was on the non-compliant list.

Those of you that will be missing wine, I only have a glass once in a while. So, on Day 31, I’m planning to have a glass of good wine with a bit of cheese, come very dark chocolate and a slice of artisan bread.  Then back on the Whole30 for a second go-around!

I am excited to embark on my first Whole30 on Jan 2, 2018.  Today, Jan1, I will finish getting organized and do food prep for the week.  As a newbie I am sure I will have questions along the way.  I'm happy I found this group!

Feeling lethargic and out of control with cravings. Went to a movie the other night and could not make myself stop wolfing down the tub of popcorn! Really it wasn’t a choice, the difference between not wanting to stop and not being able to stop struck home. A lightbulb went off in my head.

I’m hoping to get rid of or reduce sugar binges, daily popcorn habit, obsessive eating and to control food instead of it controlling me. It would be a bonus to see numbers in the 120’s not high 130’s on the scale after this 30 Days!

@Garden Gal you can type an @ symbol next to a person's name to tag them in a reply, or you can click the Quote button in their post and it will copy their post down into the reply box.

Fruit is okay to have. It should always be part of a meal, not on its own, and you should try to limit it to not more than a couple of servings a day, where a serving is about the size of your closed fist.

Oh gosh Erin, you took the words out of my mouth.  I too am most fearful about giving up wine since it's such a huge part of my life.  To others this may sound odd, or just plain alcoholism but I understand! I have bottles of sparkling water in the fridge that I'm hoping to make a little more interesting... let me know if you come up with any good alternative drink suggestions.  Hang in there! :-)
