Teavana teas that are Whole30 compliant and actually taste good?

I went to Teavana today and bought two teas and when I got back to my office, I looked up the steeping instructions and saw that one of them contained sugar as an ingredient. I am not on my Whole30 right now (starting January 1), but I have the following question:

Are there any Teavana teas that:

  1. are Whole30 compliant based on the ingredient list and
  2. don't need sugars to taste good?

I am looking for a tea that is going to taste nice without needing to add sugar or honey so it doesn't taste gross.

Thanks!

I used to be a Teavana junky, but have let it go over the past year or so. Many Teavana teas are just tea, flowers, or other herbaceous stuff. The staff are very knowledgeable and should be able to tell you what is just tea and what has a mix of other things.

I think there are some that have candied fruit pieces, otherwise you should be good to go on most of them. Try some of the "plain" teas to be extra sure or straight herbal teas (without candied fruit). I just started drinking tea but some of the ones with candied fruit are going to have to wait. That said, the amount of sugar is probably minimal in one cup from the fruit. Just don't add that rock sugar! I don't like tea sweet anyway.

You have to be super careful with tevanna teas. I was told my tea only had fruit, tea, and spices by the salesperson and when I got home, I looked up the ingredients online and the fruit is candied. Sticking with the plain, whole leaf or plain herbal teas is the way to go there. Before you go, browse online and take a look at the ingredients.

If the ingredients don't say candied fruit, does that mean that the blueberries are just blueberries? I did notice that some that I had said blueberry flavoring. Does anyone have any info on that? Thanks!

The ones with candied fruit will list sugar in the ingredients. It would say something like "dried blueberries (blueberry, sugar)" in the ingredients list. However, be sure you are looking at the ingredients list and not just the "description" as it will likely just list "blueberry" in the description. You can find the ingredients lists online, not in the store or the in store pamphlet.

Just out of curiosity, I just looked at some of the ingredients online. Some of them have rice flour in the dried fruits!

When you find the tea you are searching for, there will be a little arrow that you can click that opens up the "preparations/ingredients". That is where you want to be looking for things like sugar and, apparently, rice flour.

i have a blooming tea (peach) and one of the ingredients is "artificial flavoring". what does that mean? the word artificial kind of makes me cringe since whole30 is all about eating whole real food.... is this whole30 compliant?

Here's Moderator Tom's answer from a previous forum thread on this same subject:

Artificial flavors are made in a lab and not extracted from actual plants. You can drink a tea that includes artificial flavors, but I would find a better tea if I were you. The point of a Whole30 is to eat real, whole foods. Artificial flavors are not real or whole.
