Rules vs. recommendations

Sugar free barista

Recommended Posts

So this is my first whole30. I work as a barista and I live with a teenager, so I'm confronted with temptation both at work and at home. Last night my daughter brought home a baguette from the farmers market and I'm happy to say I resisted it but today I found myself eating a chocolate sea salt rxbar, a lemon bar lårabar, a fruits and greens lårabar, a cherry apple chia kind bar and a mango apple chia kind bar. Part of that was due in part to the fact that my dinner is still in the slow cooker because I have too much work and too little time. In fact most of that is because I have too much work to do and too little time to do it. I know fruit and nut bars are not off plan, I noticed I don't binge on rxbars, so I've determined lårabars and pressed by kind bars are not safe for me. I also had an apple, but that's different. Today was a very physical day, I did laundry, walked to the post office, vacuumed my apartment. I think I will bring the remaining bars to work and keep them in my locker.

I'm used to not eating dairy, however I've never given up sugar, grains and legumes before. I do miss sugar and grains, but I'm super committed to following the rules.

Ya, 5 bars in one day isn't in the spirit of the program, so good that you can acknowledge the issue.

It can be tough to be surrounded by non-compliant items. That's a contender for toughest part of the program, probably second only to thorough label reading.

My mom is a dietitian so I grew up reading labels, and I grew up knowing I had a problem with grains, but she never did anything to help me with it. I would say the sugar cravings is the toughest part followed by the amount of work it takes to prepare food. I had gotten away from preparing breakfast, lunch and dinner every day due to my job but now that I can't eat any of the breakfast or lunch food at work I'm having to make my own. It was actually my job that motivated me to do a whole30.
