Busy Momma of 3 starting a Whole 30 12/31/12!

Hi All!

I am so happy to have found this forum! I have read the book It Starts With Food cover to cover twice now and am convinced this is what my body desperately needs. I attempted a Whole 30 in December and got half way through however travel for work and family pressure during the holidays were just a bit much on my first attempt.

I am committed to making 2013 a year of health and wellness. After having my three precious children and living a very busy life style as a working mom, I have found that health and wellness have taken a back seat. As I sit here, I am overweight, exhausted, out of shape, and just plain frustrated. I know that only through a true commitment to my health and well being and a lot of hard work, I can achieve my goals this year.

I am beginning my Whole 30 journey tomorrow. I cleaned out the pantry and refrigerator, stocked up on Whole 30 approved foods, and am ready to begin this new life style tomorrow first thing. I feel so excited and energized to make this happen! I know that this will not be easy at all, but the results WILL be life changing and I will be the stronger, happier, and healthier mother, wife, and woman that I know I can be and so very much want to be.

I am so happy to have found this forum and hope that we can all do this together! I am hoping to find other busy moms making it happen for themselves and their families and share ideas for how to make this lifestyle change happen. I am looking forward to this journey and making some new friends along the way!

PS: I'm documenting my journey on my blog: www.astrongmom.com if anyone is interested..

Best,

Laurie

Hi, I am starting tomorrow too! I am a mom to two young boys (3 and 5) and I am dragging them and the hub's along for the journey. I think it is awesome that you are blogging about it. I considered it but, I have commitment issues. I will make sure to pop over and check out the blog and see how you are doing :)

I think the idea of starting Dec 31 is awesome, end the year the way you intend to start the next year.

I have boys, 3 and 4 and I'm a full time student with a part time job...lol. I understand busy. Thank God for the Earth Fare here, or I'd be stuck at lunch on the town. Plenty of Whole 30 foods there.

Good luck and lets keep each other updated.

You can friend me on fb if you want. Naomi Voss.

Good luck to the mommas, am starting on the 31st right with you. I started this afternoon actually... was looking at some fudge and thinking, aw I'll just wipe this out, finish up the milk too.... But I said NO and flushed it. I know that probably isn't good to do but I wanted it gone.

Hi all, I start my FIRST Whole30 January 1, but since this forum seems to also connect with mom's on Whole30, I thought I could join in. I am 34 years old and mother of three (3, 5, and 7). I went Paleo two months ago and I'm feeling great. I too have dragged my husband into the lifestyle and he will be doing the Whole30 with me too! I am slowly converting the hole household to Paleo and we have been eating some of the greatest meals. There are soooo many great recipe sites out there and I also got a couple good Paleo books. I am so excited to be on this journey and feel really good about doing this not just for myself but for my whole family. When I embarked on this journey I didn't know of I would be able to take everyone along this journey with me, but I feel so informed and in control that I wouldn't dream of leaving my family, and especially my kids, behind!

Good luck everyone. What a great commitment we have made. Looking forward to feeling the support fr everyone.

Good luck to all the busy moms. And, kudos to those whose husbands have agreed to go along for the ride. I have 3 busy kids. A 15yo and 12yo twins. All involved in multiple sports. I also work full time. My husband scoffs at the Paleo lifestyle (calls it drinking the kool-aid) so I just quietly go about it on my own. I started on 12/26 and so far I feel really good.

Lucky my husband said he was gonna do it but yesterday he drank soda and ate crackers. I'm disappointed but I can do it on my own.

No worries! My hubby already stated that he cannot come along for the ride - he needs his bread and rice. But, he will eat whatever I cook so I am hoping that little by little he will like what we are eating for dinner and will hop on the wagon as well. I am hoping that the kids will also experience the same. I am not forcing this 100% on everyone but if they are hungry at meal time, they will eat it and hopefully get used to a new way of eating. Also, not having junk in the house will make it much easier to push the fruits and veggies as snacks rather than crackers, chips, and ice cream!!

So glad that we can share our journeys here. This seems like a huge task right now and it is helpful to know we are doing it together!

My hubby and father, who is a doctor, thinks I am slightly nuts making these dietary changes. I am doing this for ME and I am certain that the results will speak for themselves. I am hoping that the results will inspire my family to think about how much what you put in your mouth effects the way you feel. So glad we all have each other here for the support and motivation!!

Happy New Year All! Have a wonderful evening and here's to the first day of our Whole 30!! Is there an easier space where we can chat daily or do we keep coming back to this same thread? I'm still new to this site so figuring out how to best use it...

My husband gladly jumped on the Paleo/primal band wagon (as long as he gets to have cheese)...he is resistant to the further restrictions of a Whole30.

He is addicted to Pepsi, popcorn and cheese though and they seem to be his munchies of choice in the evening. I have taken to brewing a pot of herbal tea to sip on while he is noshing on pepsi so I don't feel "left out".

I plan on wowing him into submission with my awesome dinners and amazing results. A picture speaks a thousand words. Even more if the picture is living with you and doing really well. lol

Hi everyone! I would love to join your group. I am starting today, too and need all the help I can get! I have 2 kids, 5 and 2 years old, and have started eating Paleo many times but keep getting derailed by one thing or another. I am determined to finish this whole 30, so I can get healthy in 2013! Just had my coffee with only coconut milk and it wasn't too bad. Happy New Year!

Nan Gordon here. I am starting my first W30 tomorrow, Jan 2. I am granny and full-time caregiver to my almost 3-year old grandson. I would love to join your facebook group.

Besides me and my grandson, my household consists of my husband and our 24-year old "stay at home daughter." (Not the boy's mom -- she is battling her own dragons right now, which is why he is with me for the time.) They eat what I cook, so in that sense they are taking the journey with me, but I am not trying to convert them. Not yet. As MommaMawby put it so well, I am planning on wowing them into submission with awesome results!

Good luck, everyone!

Just started my Whole30 journey today after a not-so-successful attempt last year. I really need this and I can honestly say that I am truly sick and tired of being sick and tired. Do any of us busy moms really have time for that? I think not. I really have enjoyed reading the posts on this thread - what I great group of women. I would love to join the Facebook group - I've sent a request. This would be my first experience with an online community and I'm really looking forward to getting to know all of you and encouraging each other along the way. Happy New Year everyone!

I'm also joining you ladies! I have a 7mo son, and while I've been mostly Paleo for almost three years, it's a good time to get fight the sugar demons... and to cut back on gluten free 'foods'. I've joined the FB group, it'll be great to keep up with you on there! Happy New Year!

HAPPY NEW YEAR, ladies!! It is so nice to see everyone here! This is so wonderful to have the group as a source of motivation, inspiration, and support! I can't wait to see what this challenge will bring for us all!

JulieK, I have also just switched to coconut creamer in the coffee. Funny thing is that I don't really taste much of a difference between that and half and half. What is funny is that earlier last year, that was the ONE thing that kept me from doing a Whole 30 - I didn't think I could go without half and half in my coffee! I have realized that was just an excuse and I was not really ready to make the change. I am so glad that I am now doing it.

Last night I made a roast chicken for dinner, mashed sweet potatoes, and roasted green beans. The whole family loved it and no one really knew that it was a Paleo/Primal meal. No one missed the white potatoes or rice which was very nice. We will see what they say in another week or two! Tonight I am trying a new chicken recipe I found on Pinterest and will roast some beets on the side. I will let you know how it goes!

I hope you all have a wonderful day! Please continue to share any recipe ideas that are hubby and kid approved - we all need a serious arsenal of good recipes that are family friendly!!

Hugs to all of you!

Laurie

So... I had plans to go out to dinner tomorrow night with some friends and they just decided to go to Giordano's. Ah! I hadn't fully committed, although was looking forward to seeing them. But, I don't know that I'm up for the deep dish avoidance challenge yet. Any advice?

Welcome! I started my second Whole30 yesterday. I started my first Whole30 November 26th and only got through a little over 3 weeks. my husband was out of town for pretty much the entire time and the stress of that, the holidays, and construction in my house made me cave during my third week.

I have an almost 4 year old, work full time and go to school full time and sometimes play single parent when my hubby is out of town on business. It gets quite hectic! What really helps with cooking meals is cooking a weeks worth of a variety of protein and variety of veggies. The majority of my meals are hot plates that take about 10 minutes to whip up. I love it! I get to spend more time with my family and less time in the kitchen. Sundays are my "cooking" days and I sometimes let my little on "help" where she can. I recommend purchasing ISWF and Well Fed. I just bought Well Fed and it has helped me make more of a variety of meals and I'm now in love with even more spices and seasonings. :)

Good luck to all of you in this amazing journey!

I love the idea of a Facebook group!

Regular chat and accountability helps keep me on track. Before I go to bed, I search for #Whole 30 or #paleofood on instagram to browse pictures of other people's creations.

However, I am not a mom. I suppose I could talk about my cat Alice in place of a child?
