Hardest Hours to Make it Through

Recommended Posts

I'm a receptionist at a long term care facility. My work hours are 12 noon until 7 p.m.  I make it through breakfast and lunch with no problem. Then the hours of 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. hit. I'm not as busy during that time frame, so basically I'm bored.  How I filled those hours in the past of course, I ate.....the sweet, the salty, whatever someone left in the break room it was all fair game. I know this is a habit of my own making.  Anyone have any suggestions on what I call "surviving the black hole of despair?"  I've walked a hole in the flooring going around and around the desk, can't go outside the phone might ring.  I can read on Kindle. This afternoon I ordered "Food Freedom Forever".  Maybe rewarding myself by committing to read those 2 hours?  Suggestions are welcomed.

Reading seems like a good option. Or keep a coloring book and crayons or colored pencils or some puzzle books (crosswords, sudoku, find-a-word, whatever you like) to work on. Do you sew, embroider, cross stitch, crochet, or knit, or have you ever wanted to? Those would work well. Write a novel. Learn origami.

Are the patients/residents (not sure what you'd call them) ever up roaming around looking for someone to talk to? If so, could you maybe keep a few board games around that you could set up easily and play with them?

Hi! I've often found that during days or times that I'm not very busy, my mind tends to wander to food more as well. I think one thing that definitely helps is to make sure that each meal has enough fat to make you feel satiated. I've also found that drinking seltzer water helps when I'm a little bit bored. Good luck!

Thanks for the tips/ideas.  I love seltzer water will get to have on hand at work.

Shannon our residents eat their supper and are getting ready for bed by 6 p.m. or so. They are set in their ways. Not much for evening social events.  Thanks for the coloring idea I had not thought of that.

I will get through these next 2 hours.
