Eating at a plated event/fundraiser

My husband and I are on day 9 of W30 and all is going well, but we have an event this weekend that I can't quite figure out.  We are supposed to go to a fundraising gala with a sit-down, plated meal.  I highly doubt much of the food will be compliant, or if we will even be able to know.  Even if we eat before hand, most of the event takes place while seated at dinner, so it will feel weird and awkward to be sitting at a table with other people (we don't know) the whole time and not eat.  I don't want to go off plan, but I don't want to skip the event just because of dietary restrictions.   We don't have time to re-start and finish a whole round before other big life events.

Have you called the event organizer and talked to them about dietary restrictions?  Someone is organizing this and planning the menu and you absolutely will not be the only person at the event that will have a dietary consideration - the ratio of people that have them is too high nowadays to think you'd be the only one.

Other than that, yes, you'd want to eat beforehand and then eat what you can at the event... honestly people don't pay a lot of attention to what other people eat... imagine if you were sitting at a table with a bunch of strangers and someone there was just pushing their food around the plate not really eating (maybe they were sick the night before or had an eating disorder etc...) would you notice and even if you did, would you say something??  Probably not.  If you're really uncomfortable, the SECOND it looks like someone else is done their meal, ask the waiter to take your plate away.
