Ringing in the New Year with the Whole30!

This is my 1st whole30. I figured I'd start at midnight. So no champagne toast at midnight and no mimosas on New Years Day. How empowering that is! I didn't feel like I missed out on the champagne at all! I have been slowly moving my family into Primal/Paleo/Whole30. My husband will not commit to it, but eats what I cook and cooks as I request. So it's his lunches and snacks and beer. My kids still ask for (and get) milk, yogurt, & cheese occasionally. For the most part our whole family eats whole30 foods - me more than the rest of the fam, but the rest more so than their peers. I want to do this Whole30 so I can better understand the challenges and benefits that come up along the way. Then when I really switch it up at home I'll be better equipped to handle what comes up for the kiddos. ( she says with blissful optimism)

Saw your post and can relate. 😊 I have been eating Paleo but this is my first W30 (starting today). I was going to start the 2nd and give myself one more day of prep, but I had sushi last night and felt terrible afterwards. I have not had rice or soy since going Paleo and felt instantly bloated afterwards. I decided I was ready this morning to make the plunge and feel better! My youngest daughter (7) has been great about eating Paleo, but the older two (9, 14) have a lot of outside influences such as school functions and friends' houses that hold them back a bit. But I grew up in the 80s eating bologna and chocolate Ding Dongs so they are way ahead of where I was as their age! My husband is supportive of my choice and enjoys my dinners but is far from being onboard with his own choices. He does raise his eyebrows a bit as he sees me whipping up homemade mayo, bone broth, and ghee, but I know he sees how much happier I am eating clean. Good luck to you going forward and a happy 2013!

Hey Junelily! How's your whole30 going? Day 21 today. Feeling good. Daughters birthday over the weekend with a most amazing specially ordered cake. Smelled delicious. Heard it tasted good too. ; ) I froze a piece for after the whole30. Yes it's made of wheat : ( but a bite or 2 won't cause too much trouble. A big piece though would hurt too much. As I am progressing through this process I've noticed when I am tired I want a glass of wine or brandy. That when I'm stressed or tired from a long day I want to unwind with alcohol. Funny though, when you're tired what do you need to unwind? Just need sleep! It was a struggle the 1st 2 weeks. I found I had used it as a reward and felt slighted if I didn't give it to myself. So the 1st 2 weeks I used Chinese Herbs in tea form for calming the emotions. It helped transition me out of "needing" a drink. Lucky I'm an acupuncturist so had that on hand. : ) Now I don't feel the need for the herbs. YAY! Next thing I find is I drink a whole lotta Darjeeling Tea. Trying to choose no caffeinated beverages instead. Have some nettle tea to see if that satisfies the tea craving.
